Top NYC officials brawl over cell phone at Gracie Mansion as embattled Mayor Adams hosts event

As New York City Mayor Eric Adams hosted a gala celebrating Hispanic heritage, Correction Department staffers were seen on video wrestling over a cell phone and prompting uniformed corrections officers to intervene.

Department of Correction Press Secretary Annais Morales and DOC Compliance Officer Mariam Singh were seen in a short video clip that has been circulating online. The two were at a Hispanic Heritage event hosted by Mayor Eric Adams at Gracie Mansion on Tuesday night when the incident unfolded.

“We expect all city employees to act with the highest level of integrity. This matter is under investigation by the Department of Correction,” Deputy Mayor of Communications Fabien Levy said after the video was posted. “I would refer you to the NYPD to inquire whether a police report was filed.”

It was not clear from the video what prompted the dust-up but Morales could be seen speaking with Singh who began to record the moment, prompting Morales to wag her finger at her and push the phone away.

The two struggled over the phone as Morales then tried to wrestle it out of Singh’s hands. Two uniformed corrections officers stepped in to break up the confrontation but it did not appear to be very effective.

Singh continued to record as Morales repeatedly attempted to grab the phone away. Eventually, she managed to pry it out of Singh’s hands and hurled it across the room, giving Singh a look after the deed.

The officers did not seem to act to address Morales’s actions and the video clip ends as Singh is seen trying to retrieve her phone.

“There are currently no complaint reports on file,” an NYPD spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, the mayor, who is facing a 57-page indictment, spoke at the event claiming he “didn’t do a damn thing wrong,” as his administration implodes.

“If we have come through difficult times and are willing to be resilient and never surrender and never give up, why the hell are people telling me to step down from being the mayor of the city of New York, are you kidding me?” he exclaimed during his speech.

“Hard times is what we know. Can you imagine if your family, your mother, your grandmother, your ancestry would have given up?” Adams continued. “I’m going to say to you and I’m going to say throughout this city: I didn’t do a damn thing wrong and I’m not going to surrender to anyone telling me that I did something wrong.”

Social media users reacted to the eyebrow-raising video of the DOC officials.
