Trump shares thoughts on who he thinks was behind assassination attempt

Former President Donald Trump was asked exactly who he thought attempted to assassinate him in Butler, PA, and he gave a somewhat unexpected answer in a roundabout way.

Comedian and podcast host Andrew Schulz bluntly asked him on his Flagrant podcast: “Who do you think tried to take you out?

The question referenced the first assassination attempt against Trump that took place in Butler, PA on July 13. Thomas Matthew Crooks missed blowing off the former president’s head by a fraction, grazing his ear instead. Crooks killed former firefighter Corey Comperatore who was shielding his family and wounded two others before being taken out by either a counter sniper team or local law enforcement. That point is still fuzzy since Crooks’ body was cremated before it could be examined by investigators.

A second assassination attempt was made by Ryan Wesley Routh in September at Trump International golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. The Secret Service spotted the barrel of the rifle being used and chased Routh who fled in a SUV and was then arrested shortly after that.

During the interview on Wednesday, Shulz eventually got an answer to his question from Trump and it was surprising to some people. The former president made it clear he hated to answer the question evidently because of ongoing investigations. But he got around to naming foreign entities that want him dead.

“So? So I’m going to give you some big breaking news. Because you’re I know the kind of show and it’s entertainment, but it’s also very serious,” Trump told Schulz and then went into a rambling discussion of the events surrounding his assassination attempt in Butler.

“Let’s weave back to his question. This is where this is where it started. So weave back to it,” one of the hosts on the panel said.

“So yeah, I sort of hate answering it because I don’t want to give any false identities. I don’t want to do anything having to do with creating something that isn’t there. You would look at Iran. Iran has an open threat out for me and that’s bad,” Trump replied naming the Islamic country that has put a price on his head after killing Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani.

The Iranian regime has sworn revenge against Trump and several other American leaders over Soleimaini’s death.

“And Biden, if he were a real president, if he were the kind of guy he should be, should say, if anybody shoots a former president who’s now the leading candidate, even though he’s leading against Democrats, we will bomb that country into oblivion and it would stop,” Trump continued.

“And and that’s been said before with some people. You know, there have been people I won’t go into it, but there have been people that have been threatened in another party, even in the same party. It makes sense and probably happens pretty quickly,” he added. “But in another party, you know, it’s hard for them to.”

Schulz interjected, “To cross the line.”

Trump made it clear that he just wanted the protection that a former president should get from foreign enemies such as Iran.

“To want to protect me. But it shouldn’t be hard. Other people have protected other people. And what you have to inform those people is if they do it, the country will be blown to smithereens. The entire country will be blown to smithereens,” Trump pointed out. “And those threats go away because that’s a really bad threat for a country. Forget about me. I’m an individual, but I represent something very important.”

“It’s a really terrible threat. Yeah. So, I mean, there are others that could be in that category. Look, I took in hundreds of billions of dollars from China at a level that no president no president took in anything. I had tariffs on China, took in hundreds of billions of dollars, is still there. That without me, they wouldn’t have those tariffs. So you could say… But no, I think Iran would be the one,” he concluded.
