An unusual presidential primary poll from Rasmussen Reports has found that among all likely voters, mostly hated “Republican” Rep. Liz Cheney sits in second place behind only former President Donald Trump.
Released Thursday, the poll found Trump earning 30 percent of all votes and Cheney earning 16 percent, putting her ahead of every other possible contender.
In fairness, the poll included all voters, including Democrats, who for the most part now comprise the majority of her base but will not be allowed to vote in the 2024 GOP presidential primary.
Yet Cheney also performed better than expected among all GOP voters, 47 percent of whom chose Trump, 20 percent of whom chose Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and 7 percent of whom chose her.
This puts Cheney ahead of far more respected conservatives such as Sen. Ted Cruz, former Vice President Mike Pence and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
The poll provoked a lot of confusion given that Cheney’s polling so poorly in her reelection campaign and that the GOP’s top leadership all want her out.
One joker even called the poll results “Russian propaganda.”

Cheney is down 50% in her own re-election in her own state!

Who the fuck wants Liz Cheney in power? The highest ranking House Republicans want her gone.
— FreedomfanRichie (@FreedomfanR) February 24, 2022
Total BS!!! The only morons who would vote for her are Dems or rinos!🤣

The 16% for Liz Cheney is an ossified core “anti-Trump” portion of the poll. If the vote became a choice of DeSantis or Cruz versus Cheney it would be 84% to the same 16%

Just last week, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and House Republican Conference chair Elise Stefanik both endorsed Harriet Hageman, the top competitor challenging her House seat.
“I am proud to endorse Harriet Hageman for Congress. Raised on a family ranch outside of Fort Laramie, Harriett and her family have resided in Wyoming for generations,” McCarthy said in a statement.
“The most successful Representatives in Congress focus on the needs of their constituents, and throughout her career, Harriet has championed America’s natural resources and helped the people of Wyoming reject burdensome and onerous government overreach.”
He bluntly added that he looks forward “to welcoming Harriet,” versus Cheney, “to a Republican majority next Congress.”
Thank you, @kevinomccarthy! I am proud to have your endorsement and I look forward to working with you on behalf of the American people and the people of Wyoming to hold the Biden Administration accountable! pic.twitter.com/rOjl2dlSSq

In a statement shared with Fox News, Stefanik expressed a similar sentiment, except she took the added step of naming names.
“I’m proud to endorse Harriet Hageman in her race to unseat Liz Cheney. House Republicans were ready for a change when I took over as Conference Chair, and it’s resoundingly clear that Wyoming families are too,” she said.
As previously reported, Cheney used to be the House Republican Conference chair until she was booted out and replaced by Stefanik last spring over her constant decision to side with Democrats on virtually every major issue, from the impeachment of Trump to the Jan. 6th committee’s decision to not also investigate BLM/Antifa violence.
At the time that Cheney came out against investigating BLM/Antifa, McCarthy called her out for refusing to “work as one team.”
“There’s a responsibility, if you’re gonna be in leadership, leaders eat last. And when leaders try to go out, and not work as one team, it creates difficulties,” he said.

After succeeding Cheney last spring, Stefanik slammed the Wyoming lawmaker over her Trump obsession, saying she was “looking backward” instead of focusing on what matters.
“Republicans are unified in exposing the radical Far-Left agenda of President Biden and Speaker Pelosi. We want to spend every day on exposing the border crisis, the economic crisis, and the national security crisis in the Middle East,” she said.
All Republicans except Cheney and Rep. Adam Kinzinger, both of whom are detested by the GOP base. Kinzinger for his part isn’t running for reelection. As for Cheney, a straw poll held last year had her earning only six votes versus Hageman’s 59 votes.
Cheney was fiercely mocked following the vote:

But apparently, 16 percent of all voters and 7 percent of all GOP voters want her to be president …
