Britain’s cycling sports governing body has banned biological males from competing in women’s bicycle racing in another sign that the tide may slowly be turning against the transgender takeover of female athletics, a move that left the United Kingdom’s top trans cyclist crying “genocide” and threatening to leave the country.
On Friday, British Cycling announced that transgenders are now prohibited from competing against biological women, a decision reached after an extensive nine-month review that took into consideration the opinions of riders and stakeholders as well as medical research to arrive at the decision that the races will be split into two categories, “open” and “female” with males being consolidated into the “open” category.
“Transgender women, transgender men, non-binary individuals and those whose sex was assigned male at birth will be eligible to compete in the ‘Open’ category. The ‘Female’ category will remain in place for those whose sex was assigned female at birth and transgender men who are yet to begin hormone therapy. At this stage, they will be eligible to compete in the ‘Open’ category only, and should ensure that they continue to adhere to the requirements of UK Anti-Doping. Those whose sex was assigned female at birth are also able to compete in the ‘Open’ category if they so wish,” British Cycling stated on its website.
The new rules drew an unhinged reaction from Emily Bridges, the UK’s most high-profile transgender cyclist who melted down in a social media hissy fit, saying that “British Cycling is a failed organisation, the racing scene is dying under your watch and all you do is take money from petrochemical companies and engage in culture wars,” she said in a rambling post that even dragged in Florida Governor Ron DeSantis who just announced his presidential candidacy.
“This is a violent act,” Bridges raged on Instagram. “When the government is expressing admiration towards Ron Desantis’ fascist state which kidnaps children, and is itching to pass legislation to ban us from public life, this is a violent act.”
“British Cycling are supporting this, they are furthering a genocide against us. Bans from sport is how it starts, look at what is going on in America,” she added.
Last year, Bridges drew attention over a picture kissing another male bicyclist after a race in which the two finished first and second by virtue of their unfair physical advantage as the dejected third-place finisher, a biological female, looked on.
Two men kiss as they celebrate stealing 1st & 2rd place in a womens race…woman takes care of her child as she stands on the 3rd place she has been relegated to due to male cheats.
This pic tells the story of gender ideology perfectly.

“I know a lot of people will think I’m being dramatic, or overplaying how scary things are at the moment,” Bridges wrote in an overly dramatic Instagram missive. “I’m having to consider an exit plan from this terrible island and figure out what point enough is enough. It terrifies me to exist at the moment.”
“We recognise the impact the suspension of our policy has had on trans and non-binary people, and we are sorry for the uncertainty and upset that many have felt during this period,” British Cycling said in its statement. “Our aim in creating our policies has always been to advance and promote equality, diversity and inclusion, while at the same time prioritising fairness of competition. This aim has not changed: it has been central to our review and we remain committed to this vital work.”
