Trump blasts ‘broken down political hack’ Mitch McConnell for doubting Republicans retake Senate

Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Saturday and laid into Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) for suggesting that Republicans may not regain control of the Senate in November’s all-important midterm elections.

“”Why do Republicans Senators allow a broken down hack politician, Mitch McConnell, to openly disparage hard working Republican candidates for the United States Senate,” Trump asked users of his social media platform. “This is such an affront to honor and to leadership. He should spend more time (and money!) helping them get elected, and less time helping his crazy wife and family get rich on China!”

The scathing remark follows a comment made by McConnell on Thursday to the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce in which he doubted the GOP’s ability to retake the Senate.

“I think there’s probably a greater likelihood the House flips than the Senate,” McConnell said. “Senate races are just different, they’re statewide. Candidate quality has a lot to do with the outcome.”

“Right now, we have a 50-50 Senate and a 50-50 country, but I think when all is said and done this fall, we’re likely to have an extremely close Senate,” he added. “Either our side up slightly or their side up slightly.”

The “candidate quality” crack was seen by many as a jab at Trump, who most believe will be running once again for the White House in 2024.

As American Wire reported, conservatives have been predicting a Red Wave this November in response to President Joe Biden’s multiple failures, both foreign and domestic, but recent polls have suggested that the GOP is losing ground, and, according to former Trump administration official Stephen Miller, McConnell is largely to blame for the disheartening development.

Speaking on Fox News’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Miller stated, “Joe Biden is the most unpopular president in American history. We should be looking at the largest midterm victory for Republicans likewise in American history. And instead, the forecasts are shrinking every single day.”

“Why?” he asked. “Because Mitch McConnell isn’t interested in running a national referendum that says, ‘elect Republicans, and in January we seal the border, we reform law enforcement to go after criminals, not Republicans, and we end the war on America’s children.’ No. What he wants to do is hand-pick candidates that he thinks will like Mitch, and Mitch will like them. And if that means we have 48 seats or we have 49 seats, so be it.”

And, as Fox News noted, host Sean Hannity expressed his anger at McConnell during his Friday show.

“Democrats are painting Republican Senate candidates in upcoming elections and midterms as cruel and out of touch,” he stated. “Well, apparently Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is content to leave them out to dry and fend for themselves.”

“How about you get out there, Mitch, and fight for your team?” Hannity challenged the minority leader. “What’s your agenda, Mitch, or would you rather just sit by and watch helplessly as Democrats lie to your face, pass another $500 billion green energy boondoggle?”
