Trump fires shot on ‘nasty’ Dems’ lawfare: ‘It’s gonna have to happen to them’

Former President Donald Trump did not rule out the possibility that his political rivals may get a taste of the lawfare that they have been relentlessly waging against him.

In a phone-in interview with Newsmax host Greg Kelly, the presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee was asked about his conviction in a Manhattan show trial for falsifying business records.

“Is it possible that this is a net positive? Maybe it’s too soon, but you know, a lot of money is coming in, a lot of support,” Kelly said. “Is it a net positive? Is there any way that conviction could be a net positive?”

“Well, they’re nasty people,” Trump replied. “They’re crooked as hell. They’re nasty, vicious people. And it was a trial that everybody said shouldn’t have been brought.”

“But, you know, it’s a very terrible thing. It’s a terrible precedent for our country,” he continued. “Does that mean the next president does it to them? That’s really the question. You know, I said on a recent show that I did, a good show, good people — you would like these people even though they’re competitors. But you know, when I mentioned Hillary’s name, they’d all scream “Lock her up! Lock her up! Lock her up!” And everybody got a kick out of it and all.”

In effect, Trump was suggesting that it was all in jest.

“And wouldn’t it be really bad like, as an example, Hillary with the hammering of her cell phones and all of the things she did, but wouldn’t it be terrible to throw the president’s wife and the former secretary of state– you think of it, the former secretary of state, but the president — the president’s wife into jail,” he added. “Wouldn’t that be a terrible thing? But they want to do it. So, you know, it’s like it’s, it’s a terrible, terrible path that they’re leading us to.”

Trump concluded his thoughts with this ominous remark, “And it’s very possible that it’s gonna have to happen to them.”
