Trump-hating governor and Harris Faulkner clash over ex-president: ‘Let me finish my sentence’

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu has slipped into the role of the media’s favorite Republican governor since Larry Hogan’s tenure at the helm in Maryland ended, and he appeared on Fox News where he clashed with Harris Faulkner over former President Donald J. Trump, a man whom he has frequently criticized.

During Monday’s edition of “The Faulkner Focus,” the governor and the host discussed the weekend’s Lincoln Dinner which was hosted by the Republican Party of Iowa in Des Moines where the GOP candidates spoke in the key early voting state that could go a long way to determining who the party’s nominee will be.

The conversation turned a bit testy when Sununu lambasted Trump’s speech which he suggested was low energy and had even harsher words for the current 2024 Republican frontrunner.

After acknowledging that he’s “not much of a Trump guy,” the governor offered up his critique that “on the face of it, everybody in the room would tell you he gave the worst speech, he just came out…he read from a binder.”

“He just kind of looked down and read from a binder, had no energy, talked about his poll numbers, nothing about the future of America, nothing about how to get stuff done, nothing about, you know, actually getting some of these initiatives and policies moving forward,” Sununu said.

“So I.. I think his fell flat but yeah he’s definitely still leading,” he continued. “He is the former incumbent president, nobody should be surprised by that,” downplaying the national polls where Trump has a massive lead but that the conversation is taking place in Iowa and New Hampshire where he said that polls tell a different story.

“If this gets down to a one-on-one race he’s in real trouble, there’s no question about it. It’ll take some time to get there, but I think we will,” he said, seeming to endorse the scheme that was proposed by failed presidential candidate Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) who called for all but one candidate to drop out in a Wall Street Journal op-ed last week.

“So governor, again, I mean in full disclosure you’re obviously not a Trump fan, but I don’t know that it’s fair to say he didn’t really talk about anything about the future,” Faulkner responded. “I mean, I watched that. I didn’t completely get that out of it.”

“He was…,” she continued before the governor cut her off with “What did he say about the future?”

“Let me finish my sentence,” the perturbed Faulkner shot back, attempting to talk about strategy but Sununu dialed up his attack on Trump, accusing him of using supporter’s money to pay his mounting legal expenses.

“He gets up there and whether it’s the ten-minute speech in Iowa or the sixty-minute droning on, it’s all about his legal troubles. It’s all about woe is me, poor me, victimization, all of that sort of thing,” he said, later adding that Trump was a “complete failure” on the issues that matter like border security and draining the swamp.”

“RINO Chris Sununu recently stated that, “I’m not running for president in 2024. Beating Trump is more important.” No, he’s not running for President because he’s polling at Zero, and has no chance of winning. The people of New Hampshire have gotten wise to Chris Sununu, and they no longer like or respect him. I never liked him, but always did whatever he asked for the State, because I wanted to help New Hampshire, and I did!” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Monday.

When she was able to get a word in again, Faulkner stated, “The criticism that I’m hearing about Republicans overall is that Americans who were polled don’t feel like any of the candidates are talking about them enough,” with the two finally finding one thing to agree on that the debates could add some clarity to the race.
