Trump lays into ‘sanctimonious loser’ Liz Cheney, ‘sleaze bag’ McConnell and Jan 6 ‘kangaroo court’

Former President Donald Trump compared the one-sided Soviet-style show trial being conducted by Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Jan. 6 select committee to a kangaroo court — which may be an insult to kangaroo courts, given that the outcome does not just “appear” to be predetermined but is guaranteed to be.

In addition to taking a crack at the politically motivated proceedings, Trump reserved his strongest ire for U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo. One of two Republicans hand-picked by Pelosi to sit on the panel and give it a “bipartisan” label, Cheney’s performance was so pleasing that the Democratic speaker saw fit to promote her to vice chair of the committee.

Trump took to his Truth Social social media network in response to Thursday’s primetime January 6 hearing to unload on all involved — the former president has no representation at the hearing and no one to offer a counter to the narrative put forth by a body that loathes him to the very man or woman.

He wrote: “The Unselects are embarrassed by their ‘performance’ tonight!”

“Why haven’t the Unselects asked for Secret Service corroboration of the so-called ‘choke hold?'” the former president asked. “Because they know the answer, and don’t like it. A Kangaroo Court!”

The remark being in reference to the fanciful tale told by the Jan. 6 committee’s star witness Cassidy Hutchinson, who claimed Trump grabbed the steering wheel of the presidential SUV from the backseat while simultaneously grabbing a Secret Service agent by the neck because they would not take him to the U.S. Capitol after he spoke at the Jan. 6 Stop the Steal rally.

Secret Service agents are reportedly willing to testify that Trump did not try to lunge at them or take control of the vehicle, but the committee only presents testimony favorable to their efforts to smear the former president.

In another post, Trump unloaded on Cheney, who chaired Thursday’s primetime hearing after Chairman Bennie Thompson tested positive for COVID-19. The hearing focused on Trump’s actions after speaking at the rally, suggesting he was “derelict in duty.”

“Liz Cheney is a sanctimonious loser,” Trump wrote. “The Great State of Wyoming is wise to her. Why not show the tapes, or interview, those that, with evidence, challenge the election?”

Cheney is likely experiencing her last hurrah as a Republican lawmaker, as she is reportedly trailing in the GOP primary by 20-plus points. There are some reports that Cheney could mount a presidential bid, but any effort to do so would likely amount to little more than a quest to get on a primary debate stage with Trump.

After asking why the committee is not questioning Pelosi and the Mayor of D.C. about “why they turned down my recommendation on January 3rd of 10,000 to 20,000 troops to stand guard at the Capitol Building on January 6th,” Trump called on them to testify.

Trump also said: “The Unselect Committee refuses to do this because it ends their fake case. Will there be any mention or study by the Unselects of how the Election was Rigged and Stolen? There is sooo much evidence, but the Unselects don’t want it seen in any way, shape, or form – and for good reason – it would ruin their latest Scam!”

“It’s Nancy Pelosi’s fault, she turned down the troops! Perhaps she was disengaged – maybe looking for her husband!” he added.

Another entry read: “I had an election Rigged and Stolen from me, and our Country. The USA is going to Hell. Am I supposed to be happy?”

An equal opportunity critic, Trump would also slam Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., saying he “came to the White House to BEG me for an Endorsement,” before calling the Republican leader a “disloyal sleaze bag!
