President Donald Trump has been on a roll, stripping security clearances from those he doesn’t think should have them.
His latest target is a law firm with ties to Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigations. Two employees at the Covington & Burling LLP firm will have their engagement terminated “to the maximum extent permitted by law,” according to an executive order signed by the president on Tuesday.
The same memo will also suspend the security clearances of all “counsel members involved in Smith’s dual special counsel investigations into Trump,” Fox News reported.

Federal employees will evaluate funding to make sure it matches up with the needs of the American people as well as President Trump’s agenda.
Two of those who will likely be impacted by this clearance revocation are Peter Koski and Lanny Breuer. Koski is the ex-deputy chief of the DOJt’s public integrity section, and Bruer is a Covington vice chairman who “helped lead the Justice Department’s criminal division under then-President Barack Obama,” the Fox article explained. The two names have previously come up in a Politico article, which reported on their offering of pro bono services to Smith. Covington & Burling LLP is estimated to have offered Covington & Burling LLP in services.
Trump’s administration lauded the suspensions as “sending a clear message that the Federal Government will no longer tolerate the abuse of power by partisan actors who exploit their positions for political gain.”
“All contracts with Covington & Burling LLP will undergo a detailed evaluation to ensure agency funding decisions align with American citizens’ interests and the priorities of this Administration, as detailed in executive directives,” the memo explains.
It is no wonder the firm sought to lend their services to Smith, as Fox reports it is the home of a number of former DOJ officials including “former Attorney General Eric Holder, former Deputy Assistant Attorney General Sarah Harrington and Stacey Grigsby” who served under Biden.
