President Donald Trump called out California leadership after federal intervention appeared to tamp down the violent protests raging in Los Angeles.
The president noted that Los Angeles is “safe and sound” following several days of anti-ICE protests, taking to Truth Social to praise law enforcement for working together with the military in bringing quiet back to the streets.
But Trump did not let Gov. Gavin Newsom off the hook for failing to act and then blaming him for the violence, sayig the Democrat leader should be thanking him for “saving his ass.”

“Los Angeles was safe and sound for the last two nights,” Trump wrote.
“Our great National Guard, with a little help from the Marines, put the L.A. Police in a position to effectively do their job. They all worked well together, but without the Military, Los Angeles would be a crime scene like we haven’t seen in years,” he added.
“Governor Gaven NewScum had totally lost control of the situation,” Trump said, using his nickname for the Democrat who has been vocally critical of the president and blamed the escalating riots on his actions.
“He should be saying THANK YOU for saving his ass, instead of trying to justify his mistakes and incompetence!!!” Trump concluded.
The president was asked about the situation while in the Oval Office on Tuesday.
“If we didn’t send out the National Guard — and last time, we gave him a little additional help — you would have, Los Angeles would be burning right now,” he told reporters. “Los Angeles would be not a lot different than what you saw take place in California in Los Angeles just a little while ago. And, you know, you gotta remember we have the Olympics coming; and we don’t want people looking at Los Angeles like it was, like it would have been. It would have been bad.”
“Last night, they had total control. If we didn’t have the military in there, the National Guard — and then we also sent in some Marines — we had some bad people. We have people — they look in your face and they spit right in your face. They’re animals. And these are paid insurrectionists. These are paid troublemakers,” he continued. “They’re agitators. They’re paid.”
Trump’s latest Truth Social post generated plenty of reaction on X, where users praised the federal support of local law enforcement and blasted Newsom for politicizing the violence rather than stamping it out.
