Trump torpedoes ‘false and ridiculous’ tale that he gave away nuclear submarine secrets

Republican frontrunner Donald J. Trump dismissed a report alleging that he spilled secrets about the capability of U.S. nuclear submarines as fake news.

According to ABC News, the former president “discussed potentially sensitive information” about the nation’s submarine fleet to an Australian businessman who then allegedly passed it on to dozens of other people.

The story was amplified by Maggie Haberman of The New York Times and dominated Thursday night’s programming on CNN, America’s foremost anti-Trump propaganda outlet despite it being once again, based on the usual anonymous sources.

On Friday, the former president reacted to the report – which appears to be based on more leaks from underhanded special counsel Jack Smith – dismissing it as more of the same malarkey that has been a fixture of media coverage since he rode down the Trump Tower escalator in 2015 to declare his improbable White House candidacy.

“The ridiculous story put out today about me talking to a Mar-a-Lago member about U.S. Submarines, is false and ridiculous, other than the fact that I will often state that we make the best Submarines and Military Equipment anywhere in the World—A pretty well known fact!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“These fake stories are put out by corrupt prosecutors trying to interfere with the Presidential Election of 2024, and based on the polling, where I am 60 points up on Republican Candidates, and 11 points up on Crooked Joe Biden, the people of our Country aren’t buying it. With that being said, I will always promote the Greatness of America—and its Military Equipment,” he said. “The alternative would be for Allies, and others, to buy from Russia, China, or elsewhere. I like creating jobs in America, which was one of my most successful achievements as President!”

According to ABC News, Trump was being careless with the sub secrets during a conversation with the Aussie Mar-a-Lago member, Anthony Pratt, a packaging magnate with the businessman then going on to spill the beans to “scores of others” who “included more than a dozen foreign officials, several of his own employees, and a handful of journalists.”

The outlet cited the standard “sources familiar with the matter” with CNN hyperventilating over what, judging from the lackluster media coverage of the big scoop on Friday, appears to be another big, fat nothing-burger.

But the story was a godsend for former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie who has been slowly sinking into irrelevance with his one-issue campaign failing to catch fire largely because Trump has wisely chosen to pass up the early debates where the blustering ABC News pundit was hoping to torpedo the frontrunner in front of a national television audience.

“Trump gave away our most top-secret nuclear submarine secrets to show off,” Christie posted to X, formerly Twitter, along with a clip of his CNN appearance with anchor Kaitlan Collins. “This is the opposite of patriotic. It’s treacherous.”

CBS News however appeared to debunk its sister network’s reporting.

“Sources tell CBS News there is no indication former President Trump shared sensitive records with an Australian billionaire + no charges have been filed by the Special Counsel through their alleged discussion about US Nuclear subs was investigated,” investigative correspondent Catherine Herridge wrote on X along with a clip of the network’s reporting from CBS Evening News.

“Special counsel Smith did not include any information about Trump’s alleged April 2021 conversation with Pratt in his June indictment against Trump, which charged the former president with 40 counts of unlawful retention of national defense information and obstruction-related offenses,” according to ABC News.
