Former President Donald Trump responded to President Joe Biden’s “awkward and angry” primetime address to America by slamming him.
Responding via his recently censored social media network, Truth Social, Trump first bashed Biden for his attacks on the MAGA movement.
“Someone should explain to Joe Biden, slowly but passionately, that MAGA means, as powerfully as mere words can get, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” the former president wrote.
“If he doesn’t want to Make America Great Again, which through words, action, and thought, he doesn’t, then he certainly should not be representing the United States of America!” he added.
In an additional post, Trump described the speech as “awkward and angry,” accused the president of having threatened Americans, and said the president must have lost his mind, either from insanity or dementia.
“If you look at the words and meaning of the awkward and angry Biden speech tonight, he threatened America, including with the possible use of military force. He must be insane, or suffering from late stage dementia!” he wrote.

Delivered at 8:00 pm EST as a primetime address, the president’s speech turned out to be nothing but a campaign speech in which he railed nonstop against so-called “MAGA Republicans.”
“Too much of what’s happening in our country today is not normal. Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our Republic,” he said.
“Now, I want to be very clear, very clear up front. Not every Republican, not even the majority of Republicans, are MAGA Republicans. Not every Republican embraces their extreme ideology. I know, because I’ve been able to work with these mainstream Republicans.”
So going by the excerpts and the pre-spin, there really is no reason to call this an official presidential address. There’s no news. No new policy. It’s basically, “Breaking: The President has an opinion about the other party that serves his political interests.”

Notice how he tried to claim that he wasn’t attacking “the majority of Republicans.” The evidence suggests otherwise.
A Morning Consult poll published last month found that a 58 percent majority of Republican voters would support Trump if he ran for president in 2024. In other words, nearly 60 percent of GOP voters qualify as “MAGA Republicans.”
Moreover, the president went out of his way to attack core Republican beliefs like opposition to abortion.
The thing is that Biden is smearing and distorting standard views on the right and just adding a MAGA label to them. He was elected with promises of normalcy and overcoming the divisiveness of his predecessor, but instead become just as divisive to distract from his own record. https://t.co/6h9SrvIjlR

The speech was, for all intents and purposes, an attack on all Republicans. However, the president did not threaten America “with the possible use of military force.”
It’s possible Trump confused the president’s Thursday address with what he’d said days earlier. Speaking at a campaign event on Tuesday, the president tacitly threatened right-wing Second Amendment supporters.
“For those brave right-wing Americans who say it’s all about keeping America independent and safe, if you want to fight against the country, you need an F-15. You need something more than a gun,” he said.

In one final Truth Social post, the former president mocked the horrible optics of the president’s primetime address by sharing a photo montage contrasting Biden yelling angrily from the podium with him — Trump — affectionately kissing the American flag.
Look:

He wasn’t the only one to take note of the poor optics. From the dark, sinister red lighting to the presence of Marines in the background, the imagery prompted hundreds of memes.
Below are a couple of examples:
The most divisive speech in my lifetime from behind the Seal of the President of the United States.
A speech that denigrates those that didn’t vote for him as a threat to democracy and the rule of law.
It belongs behind a more appropriate seal. pic.twitter.com/6g7nIRYmXD

In addition to his attacks on so-called “MAGA Republicans,” the president also criticized the right for committing the apparent crime of questioning election results.
“MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution. They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not recognize the will of the people. They refuse to accept the results of a free election,” he said.
The Republican National Committee responded to this particular line of attack by publishing a 10-minute-long video of Democrats denying election results.
