Former President Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump are reportedly returning to their New Year’s routine, despite lying low last year in the wake of his electoral defeat.
The Trumps skipped last year’s lavish end-of-year gala at his Mar-a-Lago estate, but according to Daily Mail will be opting to attend the event this year, though it’s still early enough that they may change their minds. In 2020, the pair took an impromptu trip to Washington D.C. on December 31, leaving guests – some of whom paid up to $1,000 per ticket to attend – without their company. At the time, then-President Trump was much more focused on the certification of election results that indicated Joe Biden had won the 2020 election.
It is expected that this time, Trump will return to his role as the ball’s host, speaking with reporters and schmoozing with celebrities and politicians.
On Christmas Eve, the Trumps were pictured having dinner with daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner at their private club.

The couple reportedly received a standing ovation as they made their way across the ballroom to the private table where they would dine with Ivanka and Kushner.
This announcement comes as Dr. Anthony Fauci, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director who has led the government’s messaging on COVID-19 and often clashed with Trump on how best to address the pandemic, has made it clear he believes large gatherings to celebrate the holidays are not a good idea.
“If your plans are to go to a 40-to-50 person New Year’s Eve party with all the bells and whistles and everybody hugging and kissing and wishing each other a Happy New Year? I would strongly recommend that, this year, we do not do that,” he urged.
The main ballroom at Mar-a-Lago can reportedly hold up to 700 people, though it’s unclear whether the event will reach capacity.
