Tucker Carlson sparked outrage from the left Tuesday by announcing an upcoming interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The announcement led to accusations that he’s essentially working as Russian President Vladimir Putin’s propagandist and that his interview will spark a “civil war” in the United States.
He issued the announcement through a video post published to the social media platform X. In the video, he explained why he’s chosen to interview Putin despite the “risks to conducting an interview like this.”

“We’re doing it first because it’s our job — we’re in journalism, [and] our duty is to inform people,” he said. “Two years into a war that’s reshaping the entire world, most Americans are not informed. They have no real idea what’s happening in this region … but they should. They’re paying for much of it.”
He meant the Russia-Ukraine war. He continued by warning that the war is doing more than just costing Americans — it’s upending U.S. dominance in the global economy.
“This war has utterly reshaped the global military and trade alliances, and the sanctions that followed have as well,” he said. “And in total, they have upended the world economy — the post-World War II economic order. The system that guaranteed prosperity in the West for more than 80 years is coming apart very fast, and along with it the dominance of the U.S. dollar.”

But few Americans know this, he argued because the “corrupt” press has chosen to “lie to their readers and viewers … by omission.”
As a prime example, he noted how not a single Western journalist has interviewed Putin since the war began despite there being “scores of interviews with Ukrainian President [Vladimir] Zelenskyy.” Interviews he described as “fawning pep sessions.”
“They are fawning pep sessions specifically designed to amplify Zelenskyy’s demand that the U.S. enter more deeply into a war in Eastern Europe and pay for it,” Carlson said. “That is not journalism. It is government propaganda. Propaganda of the ugliest kind.”
“Not a single Western journalist has bothered to interview the president of the other country involved in this conflict, Vladimir Putin. Most Americans have no idea why Putin invaded Ukraine or what his goals are,” he added.

And this is by design, he alleged. As proof, he cited the way the Biden administration spied on his texts and then leaked their contents to the press three years ago, right before Carlson was about to interview Putin.
“They did this in order to stop a Putin interview that we were planning [at the time],” he revealed.
But this time, he added, he’s not intimidated and will go through with the interview regardless of the administration and its allies.
Leftists are predictably not happy. Indeed, shortly after Carlson posted his announcement, The Daily Beast — a virulently left-wing site — ran a piece claiming that Putin’s allies are hopeful Carlson’s innocent interview will somehow spark a civil war in America.
“If Tucker dares to broadcast this interview in the United States, first and foremost, this will blow up their informational blockade from within,” Russian political scientist Sergey Mikheyev said on “The Evening With Vladimir Solovyov,” as reported by The Daily Beast.
“Mikheyev [also] said he was shocked to discover how many Americans believe that Michelle Obama was born a man,” The Daily Beast notes. “He intimated that if they were gullible enough to believe something like that, Tucker’s interview with Putin is bound to have some ‘interesting’ consequences.”
The host, Vladimir Solovyov concurred, saying, “It will blow them up into pieces!”
“God willing, there will be a civil war!” Mikheyev replied.
Carlson is also facing backlash from “journalists” over his claim that no Western journalist has interviewed Putin since the war began.
Look:
Interesting to hear @TuckerCarlson claim that “no western journalist has bothered to interview” Putin since the invasion of Ukraine. We’ve lodged several requests with the Kremlin in the last 18 months. Always a ‘no’ for us. pic.twitter.com/bveGLH7hJt

Does Tucker really think we journalists haven’t been trying to interview President Putin every day since his full scale invasion of Ukraine? It’s absurd — we’ll continue to ask for an interview, just as we have for years now. https://t.co/pW8F2zbq1i

As Carlson gets celebrity treatment in Moscow, Russia just extended the detention of American journalist Alsu Kurmasheva & Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich.
Those defending Carlson should reflect on why Carlson is getting unfettered access while others get detained. https://t.co/7paphH3daH pic.twitter.com/4W2Rc9MEA8— Sophie Fullerton (@florida_sophia) February 6, 2024
