The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said that federal food assistance benefits will be cut off as a result of the government shutdown, which has now dragged on for 26 days with no end in sight, as Democrat senators refuse to budge.
In an announcement posted to the department’s website over the weekend, the USDA didn’t mince words in laying the blame for tens of millions of people who will soon go hungry directly at the feet of the recalcitrant party, which continues to refuse to vote to fund the government unless Republicans bow to their extortion.
“Senate Democrats have now voted 12 times to not fund the food stamp program, also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Bottom line, the well has run dry. At this time, there will be no benefits issued on November 01,” the announcement reads.

“We are approaching an inflection point for Senate Democrats. They can continue to hold out for healthcare for illegal aliens and gender mutilation procedures, or reopen the government so mothers, babies, and the most vulnerable among us can receive critical nutrition assistance,” the USDA said.
More than 40 million people are estimated to receive SNAP benefits, which, barring a change of heart from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and his resistance caucus, will be faced with serious belt-tightening heading into the holidays.
It’s a shocking example of the extreme measures that Democrats have embraced to preserve their radical left agenda, especially when it comes to ensuring that the foreign leeches they imported during the Biden era will be allowed to continue to feast off of productive taxpayers.
“SNAP provides food benefits to low-income families to supplement their grocery budget so they can afford the nutritious food essential to health and well-being,” the USDA website states, referring to the program, which is more commonly known as food stamps.
The sudden cutoff of SNAP benefits will put recipients in the position of having to choose between feeding themselves and their kids or paying rent, utilities, and healthcare needs.
An interruption in the refilling of electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards would mean that people will be faced with making that choice starting Saturday.
Many of the recipients are “living paycheck to paycheck, and that’s the reason they depend on SNAP,” Gina Plata-Nino, interim director for SNAP at the Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) told CBS News.
People are likely going to suffer, but that’s perfectly fine with Democrats, who have no qualms about sacrificing the needy – including many of their own voters – on the altar of politics because, as House Representative Katherine Clark (D-MA) let slip, it’s all about “leverage” and to hell with those who are made to suffer.
@WhipKClark, the number two House Democrat, on the Democrat Shutdown: “Of course there will be families that are going to suffer… but it is one of the few leverage times we have.”

One of the only remaining Democrats with an ounce of compassion, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) called for an end to the shutdown before people are deprived of their SNAP benefits.
“There are no winners here. It’s not getting better every day here. People are going to start to get really hungry, and I’ve been fully, fully committed to fund SNAP, open up the government,” he told reporters last week.
