War Secretary Pete Hegseth asked the Army’s top officer to step down in a move the media called “extraordinary” but that others said is “fair.”
Hegseth on Thursday asked Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George to step down and retire:
STATEMENT:
General Randy A. George will be retiring from his position as the 41st Chief of Staff of the Army effective immediately. The Department of War is grateful for General George’s decades of service to our nation. We wish him well in his retirement.

The Washington Post described the request as “extraordinary.”
“Gen. Randy George had been expected to hold the job of Army chief of staff for more than another year, until the fall of 2027, and complete what is typically a four-year assignment as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff,” the Post added.
While no official reason was provided for George’s ouster, investigative reporter Catherine Herridge revealed that he had a history of ignoring/dismissing the concerns of COVID vaccine-injured soldiers:

“A covid vaccine injured soldier says Gen. George ‘ignored’ her case until our investigation exposed military records linking her three heart attacks to the mRNA vaccine,” Herridge reported on social media Thursday. “At the age of 24, [Karolina Stancik’s]Â heart injuries were so severe she needed a pacemaker.”
“During the Biden Administration, Stancik was wrongly throw off orders and lost her military medical insurance. After our investigation, Stancik was finally medically retired and received some back pay. Stancik says she is still working with the @DeptVetAffairs to resolve her medical debt,” she added.
Attached to her report was a clip of Stancik answering some questions.
“According to this Army memo, your debilitating heart condition can be caused by either COVID-19 infection or the COVID-19 vaccine,” Herridge said at the beginning of the clip. “Have you ever tested positive for COVID-19?”
“I don’t have a single positive test for COVID-19,” Stancik replied.
“So is this Army memo an acknowledgement that your heart condition is the result of the COVID vaccine?” Herridge pressed.
“It 100 percent is an acknowledgement that it was a result of the vaccine,” Stancik responded.
“What was the cost of following orders [and taking the COVID vaccine]?” Herridge then asked.
“I mean, it pretty much cost my whole life. … I was left behind and trampled. They watched it, they came back, walked all over me, and then left again,” Stancik replied.
Stancik preciously spoke with NewsNation host Chris Cuomo after she retired from the Army in December of 2024:
“They’re lucky I’m not dead, whether by suicide or medical emergency,” she told Cuomo. “They’re lucky. It was the closest thing to hell in my life. I contemplated suicide.”
She added that she was “abandoned by the military” after she endured three heart attacks and a stroke following a shot of the Moderna vaccine.
“It’s a love/hate relationship. It’s a bittersweet moment,” she continued. “It brings up a lot of negative emotions because of the traumas I had to face throughout this whole time. I’m 24. I shouldn’t be retired, you know?”
It required an extensive battle with the Department of War — one aided by the Uniformed Services Justice and Advocacy Group (USJAG) —Â for Stancik to finally get “full relief” from the military.
Veterans advocate Jeremy Sorenson previously slammed the U.S. military for its treatment of Stancik.
“They have the money,” he told The National Desk. “They choose to spend the money on other things. The Department of Defense chooses to spend its money not on its people, not on injured servicemembers, they have other priorities.”
“Our country has a responsibility to take care of our injured service members. [Branches of the military] ignore the Department of Defense instructions, they ignore federal law and they make policies and they make determinations that are wholesale illegal,” he added.
George’s ouster comes amid the removal of over a dozen top military brass:
