Violent crime up 37% in Chicago, so Mayor Lightfoot sings to promote karaoke contest

Aside from the embarrassment, it’s not a stretch to suggest that voters deserve what they get when they put people like Lori Lightfoot in positions of power.

Elections have consequences and the Windy City is living with those consequences daily with a 37 per cent increase in violent crime compared to the same time period in 2021, according to statistics from the Chicago Police Department.

Meanwhile, shameless Democratic Mayor Lightfoot is plugging a karaoke contest: “It’s time to sing your hearts out, Chicago! Our karaoke competition is starting Sunday and will go until Nov. 6th. Now’s your time to shine.”

Lightfoot was singing “Sweet Home Chicago” in the TikTok video, which prompted one social media user to respond: “The Sweet Home Chicago I once loved is gone… and now I love my home in Florida.”

The winner of the Chicago Sings Karaoke contest will receive a $5,000 prize, assuming they stay alive long enough to collect the award.

There’s more violent crime being reported in Chicago today than every year since 2018, the New York Post reported, further noting that “the number of motor vehicle thefts so far in 2022, when compared to the same time period in 2021, has gone up by 74%. The number of thefts reported has increased by 61%.”

Given the state of the city, it’s rather remarkable that residents are tolerant of such behavior from their top elected official — then again, Chicagoans didn’t bat an eye last year when Lightfoot publicly declared that she would no longer sit down with white reporters. You know, because of equity.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
