An Australian woman visiting the United States was driven to delete her TikTok account after she felt compelled to post a video complaining about the display of patriotism in America.
Her video even drew a response from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
“I’m just gonna say it … there are too many American flags,” Mia Chloe said in the video. “They’re on houses. They’re on cars. Some are on couch cushions. Like, I don’t know who is making these American flags but they’d be making a bloody fortune. And like, you’re the only country that I know that does this.”
She goes on to explain that she rarely sees the Australian flag on display in her country.
“Could not tell you what it looks like,” Chloe said of her country’s flag. “I know it’s blue and it’s got some stars on it but I think I could draw the American flag from memory. I think I could make a bloody sculpture out of it, that’s how many times I’ve seen it.”
“It’s enough. Let’s pull back on it, OK. Let’s stay humble,” she concluded.

Gov. Abbott tweeted in response, “Go back to Australia,” punctuating his message with eight American flag emojis.
Although, a social media user noted somewhat accurately: “To be fair half US population gets triggered by the US flag.”

Here’s a quick sampling of other responses to the story, as seen on Twitter/X:
We’re not Australia babe. We’re the United States of America. Don’t like seeing our flag flying, go back home. We won’t miss you.

She does not speak for all (or even most) Australians. Not by a long shot.
Keep waving your flags America! We in Australia needs more of it ourselves.— MiniTika (@Mini_Tika_) August 14, 2023
As an Aussie who just spent two weeks in Texas, I found the presence of the flags inspiring. I wish we had that kind of patriotism back home.
Unfortunately, these kids have no pride and respect for their country (or others). And I’ve seen a corresponding lack of courtesy and…

Yeah what a weird thing to come here and say? You’re a guest, be nice.
Nobody, an I mean nobody, wants to be like Australia. Ok to visit, undesirable to live or start a business.
