Wash. councilman with ‘laundry list of illegal, unethical activities’ FINALLY faces recall, but still has supporters

A Washington State city council member is now facing a fierce recall thanks to years of extremely poor decision-making.

The troubles for Lynnwood councilmember Josh Binda, 23, started in 2021 when he “failed to file his personal financial statements with the state Public Disclosure Commission,” according to The Everett Herald.

Below is an Instagram photo of Binda:

Things got 10x worse in 2022 when the “Public Disclosure Commission opened a formal investigation and found Binda spent $2,742.49 of campaign funds on designer items, dental work, hair, airfare and entertainment tickets,” according to Seattle station KIRO.

Then in January of this year, Binda faced an ethics investigation after he reportedly used the Lynnwood City Council chambers to shoot a promotional video after hours and without permission.

In addition to all this, he also “used the city email system to negotiate private speaking contracts,” “knowingly lied to the City Council about when he signed private business contracts for his speaking tour,” and “attended the National League of Cities Conference in Washington D.C. in May 2023 without notifying the City Council, while claiming he was representing the city,” according to the Herald.

And oh, he repeatedly kept falling asleep during city council meetings. But he wasn’t done yet. In March, he made things even worse for himself by posting the following shirtless Instagram photo targeting his middle and high school student supporters:

This evidently was the final straw.

After all this, local resident Diodato Boucsieguez sought to launch a “Recall Binda” movement. Now fast-forward to Tuesday, when a judge ruled in his favor.

“In an otherwise-empty courtroom, Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Marybeth Dingledy … determined Binda’s actions met the ‘misfeasance or malfeasance’ threshold for recall. Binda, 23, did not attend the 10-minute hearing, despite having been notified earlier this month,” according to the Herald.

In other words, the recall campaign may move forward.

“The Committee to Recall Joshua Binda is pleased that the Snohomish County Superior Court determined that the charges our committee filed with the Snohomish County Auditor’s Office satisfied the criteria for the recall petition and found the ballot synopsis filed by the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office was adequate,” Boucsieguez said in a statement to the Lynnwood Times following the decision.

“We are moving full steam ahead and are ready to gather petition signatures. We are fully confident that we will surpass the amount of signatures required to place the recall vote on the ballot,” he added.

There’s just one tiny catch, though.

Binda has about two weeks to appeal the court’s decision before the recall campaign can begin collecting signatures,” the Herald notes.

“The campaign needs at least 2,416 signatures — or 35% of the 6,901 total votes cast in the race where Binda was elected — to force an official recall vote,” according to the station.

Boucsieguez seems certain Binda would definitely lose were there to be an official recall vote.

“Unless you’re not reading the news, and you have an ideological obsession with Binda, you will vote to recall him because of the laundry list of the various illegal, unethical activities of Council Member Binda,” he reportedly said.

Believe it or not, Binda does have his supporters, who for the most part appear to be leftist racial grievance mongers.

Observe:

Binda’s allies predictably include the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

“In May of 2023, [NAACP] of Snohomish County announced that it is investigating alleged ‘misinformation’ surrounding Councilmember Josh Binda. They argued that the Recall Binda Committee and multiple media outlets covering his misuse of political power were ‘racist,’” according to the Times.

Of course they did …
