President Joe Biden’s handlers have had their hands full over the course of his administration, what with major “corrections” of multiple statements on the world stage that could have escalated tensions to all out war and lesser instances of him seemingly forgetting which of his colleagues had already died.
Somewhere on that spectrum, Biden made quite the claim Sunday that his unilateral student debt forgiveness “passed by a vote or two,” and the White House assured that that was not at all what you heard.
As previously reported, the president’s latest attempt at appealing to America’s youth and the “wokees,” as comedian Tim Allen put it, involved a discussion with six progressive activists at the White House where he pledged his support for “gender-affirming care” while failing to take necessary steps to combat the current economic crisis.
Instead, along with likely being a flagrant disregard for the law, Biden compounded the issue with the vote-buying scheme of student loan forgiveness set forth by executive order that, if allowed to stand, will cost the American taxpayer billions. Of course, the president didn’t see it that way, nor did he acknowledge that the action was his alone as he claimed, “I signed a law that’s being challenged by my Republican colleagues…what we’ve provided for is if you’re going to school, if you qualify for a Pell Grant…you qualify for $20,000 in debt forgiveness. Secondly, if you don’t have one of those loans you just get $10,000 written off.”
“It’s passed. I got it passed by a vote or two and it’s in effect,” Biden stated. “And already, a total of, I think it’s now 13 million people have applied for that service.”
Is Joe Biden confused?
Did… did his team lie to him and tell him that this was a bill that got passed in Congress?
He seems to genuinely think that the student loan debt forgiveness was a bill that was passed in Congress.
Does he think this?

What the president does and does not know has remained in doubt even before he was elected, but as Fox News White House correspondent Jacquie Heinrich reported, this was surely a case of the public misunderstanding that Biden was actually referring to the Inflation Reduction Act.
“The President was referring to the Inflation Reduction Act, which reduced the deficit by hundreds of millions of dollars, creating room for other crucial programs,” the official statement read. “As you know, no Republicans voted for the Inflation Reduction Act in the House or in the Senate, where it passed by a single tie-breaking vote by Vice President Harris.”
Of course, even that had to be clarified as Heinrich added, “they meant to say ‘billions’, not ‘millions’ in the statement.”

A stay had been ordered on Biden’s loan forgiveness plan by the Eighth Circuit Court of appeals Friday as multiple states had challenged the constitutionality of the action. This led National Review writer Charles C. W. Cooke to conclude that Biden, “now lying about it having gone through Congress,” was a direct reaction to the legal challenge.
Having willfully violated his oath of office by issuing an executive order he knows is flatly illegal—and having then tried to dodge review by the courts by amending it on the fly —Biden is now lying about it having gone through Congress. https://t.co/XNRSCyIdZd

Unfortunately, this left those reacting to the claim flummoxed as they tried to determine whether it was worse for the president to be a liar or cognitively impaired.
The best defense of Joe Biden here is “Oh no, he is fully aware of what happened, he is just lying about an obvious thing b/c he forgot that normal people have the internet and can look it up”

He is a liar. He lies about everything. Always has.

Either way, he should be removed.

I’m wondering where “the president is either a liar or cognitively impaired” ranks on the threats to democracy scale
