‘When 9/11 happened, we didn’t ban planes’: Lauren Boebert pushes for school safety over gun grab

U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., was swept into office as a strong Second Amendment proponent and she appeared on Fox News’ “Hannity” Thursday night to comment on the left’s hard push for gun control laws in the wake of the senseless shooting of elementary school children in Uvalde, Texas.

The gun control lobby is seizing on the deaths of 19 children and two adults in much the same way they did with George Floyd’s death to push their radical view that America is an inherently racist nation into the mainstream — a successful campaign that saw many American corporations get duped for millions by the Black Lives Matter grift, money the cofounder dubbed “white guilt money.”

Democrats are steering the conversation away from the more attainable goal of securing schools to the point where a gunman cannot enter without great difficulty to a grab for guns, focusing on the instrument of destruction over the person responsible to call for a ban on “assault weapons” and high capacity magazines. Guest-host Tammy Bruce. who was filling in for Sean Hannity, asked Boebert where the opposition is on the issue.

“People want to know where the Republicans are at, where you’re at, when it comes to what the next step can be taken for some real change here,” Bruce said.

“Well, first of all, of course, my heart mourns for what has taken place,” the lawmaker replied, expressing her condolences for the children who were killed. “And once again, unfortunately, we’ve proven that gun-free zones are deadly and we cannot legislate evil.”

“I want our schools secured,” she continued. “I want their children protected, and I want teachers that can protect themselves and their students. And you know what? We can achieve this without trying to disarm law-abiding citizens. For me, this is my equalizer. I need a way to protect myself and my children. And my firearm is my equalizer, my tool to do that.”

The argument on the right is that by making schools “gun-free zones,” lawmakers also make them soft targets for a deranged gunman, and Boebert slammed “shameful” Democrats for exploiting the tragedy.

“And what I’ve seen from Democrats is them trying to use this tragedy to their advantage, their radical political agenda. It’s shameful,” she said. “[Senate Majority Leader Chuck] Schumer blocking the school safety bill on the floor just yesterday, Sandy Cortez tweeting at me, but she hasn’t taken at my offer to actually meet and work together. And of course, we saw Beto [O’Rourke] acted like a total jerk and tried to use the deaths of these children as a prop to advance his political candidacy.”

“Sandy Cortez” being the name U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., purportedly went by in high school, and the reference to O’Rourke coming after his political stunt on Wednesday, with the Democrat confronting Texas Gov. Greg Abbott during a somber press conference on the tragedy.

As for the left’s play for guns, Boebert concluded, “When 9/11 happened, we didn’t ban planes, we secured the cockpit. And of course, leave it to Barack Obama to make this issue more divisive instead of allowing the nation to come together, mourn and heal.”
