White House blasted for juvenile Valentine’s Day meme attacking House Speaker

A poor attempt at humor by the White House was met with furious online criticism after a Valentine’s Day meme mocked House Speaker Mike Johnson.

An image of the Louisiana Republican was posted on X over a red background with broken hearts and a poem taking a jab at the bipartisan border deal that Johnson had declared would be dead on arrival at the House.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, Speaker Johnson,” read the caption of the White House post.

“Roses are red, Violets are blue, The border deal was crushed, Because of you,” read the poem included with the image.

Johnson has reportedly issued “multiple” requests to meet one-on-one with President Joe Biden about border security but has been rebuffed, according to Politico.

“What is there to negotiate? Really, truly, what is the one-on-one negotiation about when he’s been presented with exactly what he’s asked for?” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reportedly said. “He’s negotiating with himself.”

“If the speaker of the House can’t meet with the president of the United States, that’s a problem,” Johnson said. “I don’t know why they’re uncomfortable having the president sit across the table from me, but I will go in good faith.”

The Valentine dig at the GOP speaker angered plenty of users on social media who wondered at the immaturity of the Biden administration.

“If I was the House Speaker the response would be something like … Roses are Red, Passion Flowers are Azure, For Three F***ing Years, You Claimed the Border Was Secure,” writer Doug Powers posted.

“Did Speaker Johnson halt deportations? Stop Remain in Mexico? Halt border wall construction? End the border emergency? Unilaterally resettle millions of unvetted illegal immigrants?” asked Jake Schneider, who runs the Republican Party’s research arm. “Nope that was all you, Big Guy.”

Other critics also slammed the White House for its failed attempt to be funny.
