WHO director lashes out at pandemic treaty critics: ‘Torrent of fake news, lies, and conspiracy theories’

World Health Organization director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is upset about all the alleged “lies” being told about his proposed international pandemic treaty.

As previously reported, the WHO has issued a pandemic treaty proposal which critics allege would mean America and other nations ceding their pandemic authority (as it pertains to vaccines, close closures, lockdowns, etc.) to the globalist organization.

But according to Ghebreyesus, this allegation is nonsense, and the fact that it’s been allowed to spread unhindered and ruin his proposed timeline has upset him.

“The plan was to seal the agreement at the 2024 World Health Assembly, the WHO’s decision-making body, which convenes on 27 May,” as reported by The Guardian.

“However … Ghebreyesus, the WHO’s director-general, said the momentum had been slowed down by entrenched positions and ‘a torrent of fake news, lies, and conspiracy theories.’ He warned that if nobody was prepared to seize the initiative or give ground, the whole project risked going nowhere,” The Guardian noted.

He also pushed back on the specific claim that the pandemic treaty would mean countries ceding their pandemic authority to the WHO, arguing that this is “completely false.”

“We cannot allow this historic agreement, this milestone in global health, to be sabotaged,” he added.

The remarks were made during a speech Monday at the first meeting of the executive board of the WHO.

“At the political level, world leaders at the UN General Assembly High-Level Meeting agreed a strong political declaration, including a commitment to conclude negotiations on the pandemic agreement and amendments to the International Health Regulations by May this year,” he continued. “But I must say I am gravely concerned that Member States may not meet that commitment.”

“Time is very short, and there are several outstanding issues that remain to be resolved. In my view, a failure to deliver the pandemic agreement and the IHR amendments will be a missed opportunity for which future generations may not forgive us,” he said.

The “IHR,” or International Health Regulation, that Ghebreyesus mentioned is separate from the pandemic treaty.

“The W.H.O. is also seeking to expand its authority through amendments to the IHR that would allow it greater freedom to declare health emergencies, among other powers,” according to Breitbart News.

“The 2023 [World Health Assembly last May] resulted in some successful amendments to the IHR, including one allowing the W.H.O. to declare a public health emergency without having to ‘consult with and attempt to obtain verification from the State Party in whose territory the event is allegedly occurring,'” Breitbart News notes.

The ostensible goal of the IHR amendment was to prevent a repeat of what happened in 2020, when the WHO knew a pandemic had erupted in China but were unable to declare it due to interference from the Chinese Communist Party.

“It will take courage, and it will take compromise. You will not reach consensus if everyone remains entrenched in their positions,” Ghebreyesus continued in his remarks Monday. “Everyone will have to give something, or no one will get anything.”

He also argued that a pandemic agreement could save future lives.

“We lost many people [during the pandemic] because we couldn’t manage them,” he said. “They could have been saved, but there was no space. There was not enough oxygen. So how can you have a system that can expand when the need comes?”

“The pandemic agreement can bring all the experience, all the challenges that we have faced and all the solutions into one. That agreement can help us to prepare for the future in a better way. This is a common global interest, and very narrow national interests should not come into the way,” he added.

Responding to his remarks, members of the public accused him of being the one spouting fake news and lies:
