Whoopi Goldberg: Apply ‘abortion laws to guns’

“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg, who has never met a Democrat talking point she didn’t like, suggested on Wednesday that somehow politicians should apply “abortion laws to guns” following the tragic shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

Never one to let a crisis go to waste, Goldberg accused Texas Governor Greg Abbott of “making it easier for mass shooters to buy, carry and own guns in his state,” before she went on to suggest America “apply his abortion laws to guns by deputizing citizens to sue anyone involved in gun violence.”

It’s incredibly unlikely that she considered any potential consequences of this thought experiment before blasting it out on national television.

“So you sold an AR-15 at the gun show? See you in court,” Whoopi argued. “Does your neighbor have too big an arsenal? Call the cops. Actually, let’s invoke some Supreme Court logic too. Alito says abortion’s not in the Constitution. Neither are AR-15s. So I guess the Constitution doesn’t cover them either.”

“Life is so sacred, then stop using guns to abort young lives,” she continued before fellow co-host Joy Behar cut in to demand that people also “Stop voting Republican.”

For a moment, Goldberg said something logical, pushing back on Behar’s blanket demand to say, “No, don’t stop voting for Republicans. But get better Republicans in there.”

But she doesn’t want to take all guns, at least not yet. Goldberg asserted that those who want “shotguns” for hunting should be able to do so, but the popular AR-15 should not be something that the average American has access to.

“If you’re gonna get all in my business and tell me what my family can and cannot do, neither can you. They’re gonna come for those AR-15s, and you better get ready to give them up. Because this is America. We were supposed to be able to do things and be the people we wanted to be, and now we are in a crazy place,” she said.

For those out of the loop, in 2021 Texas passed a bill that would make getting/performing an abortion illegal if a fetal heartbeat is detected. It would also give citizens the ability to sue any healthcare professional who performed an abortion during that time, which would occur at about the sixth week of pregnancy. Leftists decried this as far too restrictive on reproductive rights, as the pro-life side celebrated.
