Alleged remarks by the president after a meeting with Gotham’s Islamist mayor found Fox News host Will Cain young conservatives seeking a “shortcut to the American dream.”

Monday in Manhattan, President Donald Trump was invited to Gracie Mansion as he and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) had their third meeting since Hizzoner won the November 2025 election. After a lip reader suggested the chief executive whispered “support” for the radical leftist, Cain sounded off on affordability and “ideologies.”
On Tuesday’s installment of “The Will Cain Show,” the Fox News host began a final segment remarking, “Yesterday in New York, a meeting of the minds between MAGA and socialism,” before presenting the findings of expert lip reader Jeremy Freeman to the New York Post.
Reading from the article, Freeman contended Trump told Mamdani, “I’ll look after you, you look after the New Yorkers. And we can both make it work. I wanna support you, help me. Come with me to the White House — see how I work.”
“As the two get closer,” reacted Cain, “it’s starting to look like so too are the ideologies that are represented.”
While some believed the president had been making a dig at the mayor, others saw an earnest aspiration for Big Apple success despite the differences when Trump said in front of reporters after the meeting with Mamdani, “… I’ve seen it with numerous different mayors. And I said some great ones and some not-so-great ones. So, hopefully you’re gonna be a great one — I’ll be able to say, you’re gonna be a great one, and you’re off to a start.”

The host went on to raise The Wall Street Journal’s August article “The Young MAGA Socialists Are Here,” wherein 53% of self-described conservatives surveyed supported government-run grocery stores while 42% were allegedly in favor of a Democratic socialist winning the White House in 2028
Cain came to the conclusion, “some young folks on the right are considering socialism as a shortcut to the American dream.”
It was then that he brought on Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R), who recounted how his own father, Rafael Cruz, fought alongside Cuban dictator Fidel Castro as young teenage boys were led to believe in promises of “free things” from the government.
“They discovered what socialism means when Fidel Castro took over and he began executing dissidents and seizing people’s lands, and Cuba has been trapped in utter poverty for 60 years since then,” detailed the lawmaker who rattled off some of the other countries that have made the same futile attempt.
Cain went on to suggest that the “Trojan horse” is the conversation on affordability.
Proposing a means to combat the rise in socialism, Cruz argued in favor of a populism that fights for jobs and small businesses rather than, as Cain put it, “a populism that panders to the whims of the current moment.”
