As the second anniversary of President Joe Biden’s shameful withdrawal from Afghanistan approaches, and in the wake of heartbreaking testimony before Congress from Gold Star families who lost loved ones during the evacuation, Fox News contributor Marc Thiessen believes the botched exit from the wartorn country could cost Biden a second term in the White House.
“Your heart breaks for these families, but second of all, here’s where the accountability will come in,” Thiessen said on Wednesday’s edition of Fox News’s “America Reports.”

“Joe Biden could lose the presidency because of Afghanistan, and I’ll tell you why,” he predicted. “People aren’t voting on Afghanistan in 2024, but they’re voting a referendum on Joe Biden.”
As BizPac Review reported, family members of the 13 military personnel who were tragically killed in the disastrous 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal poured their broken hearts out in their first opportunity to testify before Congress.
Gold Star mom Cheryl Rex, the mother of Lance Cpl. Dylan Merola, revealed that Biden compared, in an outright lie, the death of his son Beau Biden, to the loss of hers.

“When Joe Biden, our elected president, entered the room, when he approached me, his words to me were, ‘My wife Jill and I know how you feel. We lost our son as well and brought him home in a flag-draped coffin,'” she recalled. “My heart started beating faster and I started shaking, knowing that their son died from cancer and they were able to be by his side.”
Christy Shamblin’s daughter-in-law, Marine Corps Sgt. Nicole Gee, was killed while helping with the evacuation efforts.
“When our leaders, including the Secretary of Defense and our Commander-In-Chief, call this evacuation a success as if there should be celebration,” Shamblin said through tears, “it is like a knife in the heart for our families and for the people who came back and for every service member that served over this 20-year war.”
“I live every single day knowing that these deaths were preventable,” she continued. “My daughter could be with us today. … It could have been stopped. So to call it a success is an ultimate disrespect for the very people that deserve every ounce of respect that we can give them.”

Thiessen suggested that Biden will be unable to recover from the hit he took in the polls following the Afghanistan debacle.
“If you look at the poll numbers before the Afghan withdrawal,” he continued, “he was above 50% approval and after that withdrawal, he’s sunk below 50% and has never recovered and not only did he sink below 50% on foreign policy and fighting terrorism, [but] on every single issue.”
“Why is that? Because Americans looked at this and they said, ‘One, he’s lying to us and two, he’s incompetent,’ and when people decide that you’re an incompetent liar, you don’t recover from that,” he stated. “That is a permanent, indelible mark on his presidency and so all the polls we’re seeing in the two years since this happened are a reflection that it all started in Afghanistan.”
“It all started in Kabul when his polls cratered and they have never gone up above 50% again because the American people know he is a liar and he is incompetent,” Thiessen stressed. “That’s why he’s going to lose the White House.”
