An elderly Maryland woman reportedly fought off an underage home intruder and then fed him snacks as they waited for the police.
Marjorie Perkins, 87, was reportedly asleep in her Brunswick home on Wednesday, July 26th, when she woke up around 2:00 am and discovered the unthinkable.
“I woke up to see a male standing over me by my bed, telling me he was going to cut me,” she later recalled to local news station WCSH.
She promptly responded by jumping into go mode.
“I jumped out of bed, got my shoes on real fast because I don’t have ties, and I was ready to kick,” she told WCSH.
“He said, ‘I’m going to cut you.’ I thought to myself, ‘If he’s going to cut, I’m going to kick.’ So I jumped into my shoes,” she likewise told the Portland Press Herald.

She was lucky. According to WCSH, the suspect had left his knife in another room, so at the time he was unarmed — not that he seemed to care.
“Perkins said the teen started hitting her and she reached for a chair to use as a shield,” the Herald notes.
The trick worked.
“I grabbed a chair, and he grabbed me by the shoulders, and pushed me against the wall. So I took my chair and started hitting him,” she told WCSH.
“That helped. I was hollering for help out the window. … Thank God I had the chair between us. It would’ve been worse,” she told the Herald.
Unfortunately, nobody heard her, and so the attack continued, with the teen now punching her in the forehead and causing a bruise.
“He kept punching me and pushing me,” she said.
Strangely enough, eventually the teen suspect “got tired,” according to the Herald, and walked into the kitchen, where he then proceeded to complain that he was hungry. Perkins at this point decided to feed him as she called the police and waited for them to arrive.
“I kept saying, ‘You need to get out. You need help.’ He said he was awfully hungry and hadn’t had anything to eat for quite a while. And I said, ‘Well, here’s a box of peanut butter and honey crackers. You can have that whole box.’ I gave him two containers of Ensure and I gave him two tangerines,” she recalled.
The bad news is the teen suspect left before the authorities arrived. The good news is a police dog tracked him down a few blocks away, allowing the cops to take the kid into custody.
The unnamed 17-year-old now faces charges of burglary, criminal threatening, assault, and alcohol consumption. Evidently, the teen had a water bottle full of alcohol with him.
All that’s known about the teen is that he used to mow Perkins’ lawn for money roughly 10 years ago.
“He did a darn good job. I hope he gets help,” she told the Herald.
Also, during the whole incident, he was reportedly without pants or shoes. Perkins for her part believes he broke into her home by pushing aside her window air conditioner’s side panel and squeezing in through the gap.
“After the attack, a neighbor gave Perkins a bat and Perkins had a worker reinforce her air conditioner with screws. She urged others with window air conditioning units to make sure they are secure to prevent break-ins,” according to the Herald.
The only other thing known about her is that she’s a former elementary school teacher who stays physically active by teaching line dancing.
The unnamed suspect isn’t the only one who now likely regrets breaking into an elderly woman’s home. Back in 2018, a man tried to break into the home of an 82-year-old female bodybuilder. Bad move:
“An 82-year-old award-winning female bodybuilder turned the tables — literally — on a home intruder and beat him so badly after he broke into her house that he had to be taken to the hospital,” ABC News reported at the time.
Willie Murphy, 82, was reportedly getting ready for bed when she heard someone pounding on her front door, claiming that he was sick and needed an ambulance.
In response, she called the police to get him help but refused to let him inside. That angered him enough that he broke her front door to get inside.
“He picked the wrong house to break into,” Murphy, who can reportedly deadlift 225 pounds, said.
