Fox News host Laura Ingraham warned Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kansas) that if GOP lawmakers don’t heed the pleas of President Donald J. Trump to invoke the “nuclear option” to overcome Democrat resistance to funding the federal government, the party will pay a severe price in next year’s midterm elections.
The clock is now ticking on Senate Republicans who could end the government shutdown by simply voting to end the filibuster, a procedural tool that is being abused by Democrats to inflict holiday season suffering on America for the sake of raw politics.
Now that Tuesday’s elections are over, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and his obstructionist caucus are even more determined to stand fast and won’t budge until they get exactly what they want, including free healthcare for their most important constituency, illegal aliens.

Trump has warned that if Republicans don’t move first to do away with the filibuster to allow legislation to pass with a simple majority vote, the Democrats are going to do it the “first hour” that they retake the Senate and then move to cement one-party rule by packing the Supreme Court and giving statehood to Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. They have already tried.
On Friday’s edition of “The Ingraham Angle,” the host prodded Marshall on whether he and other Senate Republicans will do what’s now necessary with Tuesday’s running of the table in Virginia, New Jersey and New York City, incentivizing Democrats to prolong the shutdown.
“Senator, Republicans, especially the more establishment Republicans, are very, very, you know, wedded to this idea of holding onto the filibuster with a death grip,” she said. “Given what the Democrats have clearly signaled they’re going to do, they’re going to pack the court, they’re gonna make Puerto Rico a state, the list goes on and on, President Trump went through it.”
“Do you believe, given what this country and our people are facing, that it is time for the Republican Party to ditch the filibuster and start doing things for the American people?” Ingraham asked.
While Marshall said that he’s warmed to the idea of ending the filibuster, pointing out that just two years ago, the same Senate Democrats who are now defending it were supportive of eliminating it.
“Unless you can guarantee to me that the Democrats won’t do it, we need to consider it,” offering up the idea that it could be enshrined as a constitutional amendment, a process that would likely take years, with the outcome far from certain.
Ingraham then referenced a conversation that she had with Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), and that he agreed with her and the president that Democrats won’t hesitate to “jettison” the filibuster even though he is reluctant to do it.
She then cautioned that further hesitation on the part of the GOP could have severe consequences.
“The country is hurting. They want things done. You can’t ride on the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ into the midterms,” she told Marshall. “Y’all gonna get wiped out. I’m telling you. The president sees it. He knows it. Tonight, will you commit to moving with your other senators toward ending the filibuster, Senator?”
The senator declined to commit, although he indicated that he would be in favor.
“The Democrats are far more likely to win the Midterms, and the next Presidential Election, if we don’t do the Termination of the Filibuster (The Nuclear Option!), because it will be impossible for Republicans to get Common Sense Policies done with these Crazed Democrat Lunatics being able to block everything by withholding their votes. FOR THREE YEARS, NOTHING WILL BE PASSED, AND REPUBLICANS WILL BE BLAMED,” Trump wrote in a Tuesday post to Truth Social.
