Hungary’s Viktor Orbán playfully recruits Karoline Leavitt after she lays waste to ‘fake news’

A visiting dignitary publicly tried to recruit a member of the president’s team to help him contend with corporate media after taking shots at the previous administration.

Friday at the White House, President Donald Trump and members of his cabinet were joined by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for a bilateral lunch meeting. It was during the event that the president’s spotlight on White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt found the VIP guest asking, “Can I get her for [a] month?”

Seeking to chastise the media for the presented narrative on affordability in the United States, Trump called in his spokesperson to address the press, leading to Orbán’s request to hire her. The president shared the request and expressed, “Karoline, the prime minister would like you to work for him in Hungary. You know what, that’s a very good decision you just made. Please don’t leave us, Karoline.”

Moments earlier, Trump had requested she speak as he said, “Karoline, could you discuss that question that was asked and how it was asked in such a fake, disgusting manner by the fake news.”

To that end, Leavitt ripped into the media,”It’s very unfortunate that the reporters in this room refused to address, sir, what you just said, which is that you inherited the worst inflation crisis in modern American history, and you are fixing it in 10 short months. And your entire administration has been tasked with this effort, from Treasury Department to Agriculture Department to the National Economic Council right here at the White House, they are slashing regulation. He signed the largest middle class tax cut in six months — in six months, in record time — putting more money back into the America people’s pockets.”

She went on to contrast the economic accomplishments under Trump that are glossed over or distorted by biased reports with how former President Joe Biden’s administration was covered with 40-year high inflation and record-breaking gas prices, “And you refuse to cover that the previous administration created the worst unaffordability crisis in American history.”

Sharing the impromptu exchange on X later, Leavitt further emphasized the successes of the current administration after calling out how Biden “unleashed the worst inflation crisis in modern American history — something the liberal media barely blamed the Democrats for over the past 4 years.”

Highlights included no tax on tips, overtime and social security as part of the “largest middle-class tax cuts in American History,” along with the negotiation of most-favored-nation-pricing for prescription drugs, unleashing “American energy dominance,” massive reductions in red tape, and more to help bring down economic costs while also seeing increases in wages.

Earlier, Orbán tore into former President Joe Biden’s administration and said, “The reason why we are here to open a new chapter between the bilateral relation between the United States and Hungary, basically because during the Democrat administration everything was ruined. So, after your leaving President, everything was basically broke, ruined, canceled — a lot of harm done by the previous administration.”

“In the last 10 months, President, what you have done, we are very much grateful for that. You restored the old level of the relationship. You improved the bilateral relation. You repaired what was done badly by the previous administration. So now we are in quite a good position to open up a new chapter, let’s say a golden age between United States and Hungary,” the prime minister continued as a one-year exemption had been granted by the U.S. over sanctions for the use of Russian oil and gas per his appeal to the president.

As for the request for her services, Leavitt responded to Orbán on X and said, “Thank you Prime Minister Orban for being so kind, but I’m staying right here!”

To that, the prime minister responded, “Sorry to hear that, but I understand. Keep up the good work!”
