The White House called out U.S. Sen Chris Murphy as a “buffoon” after he claimed the attack on Venezuela is all about making profits.
The official White House Rapid Response account on X dragged the “sick” Connecticut Democrat for his comments during a CNN interview in which he claimed “Venezuela is not a security threat to the United States.”
“Donald Trump’s entire foreign policy is corrupt,” Murphy told CNN’s Dana Bash, claiming the operations in Venezuela are centered around oil.
“You are a buffoon, Chris,” the Rapid Response account on X posted in response.
You are a buffoon, Chris. Tell that to the families of the innocent Americans brutally murdered by the gang members the regime imported here — or the drugs they trafficked here. You’re sick. https://t.co/iN8hw35N8u

“Tell that to the families of the innocent Americans brutally murdered by the gang members the regime imported here — or the drugs they trafficked here,” the post continued. “You’re sick.”
Indeed, the congressman was left sputtering when even CNN seemed to call him out on his hypocrisy. Bash reminded Murphy of a 2019 op-ed he penned in which he called for Maduro’s ouster.
“Let’s get one thing straight: there should no longer be any debate about Maduro’s lack of democratic legitimacy,” Murphy had written at the time in an excerpt read by the CNN anchor. “The Trump administration is right to put restoring Venezuelan democracy at the center of our approach to this crisis. A return to a stable democracy is in the interest of the Venezuelan people, the United States, and the hemisphere.”
Democrat Chris Murphy – who opposed the successful raid to capture Maduro – gets confronted by CNN for previously calling for him to be outed.

“We don’t know what’s going to happen with regard to the civilian leadership there. Tom Cotton, who is here, is saying that he hopes there are democratic elections. Isn’t that what you want?” Bash asked Murphy.
“Well, the rest of that article was a criticism of President Trump’s early moves to saber-rattle around regime change,” the senator responded with an uneasy laugh.
Social media users were highly entertained by the expression on Murphy’s face and his quick reaction to the inconvenient history Bash dug up.
I can’t believe CNN called out one of their own.
