Attorney General Merrick Garland reacted strongly to criticism of his Department of Justice, an agency that has been engulfed by a full-blown credibility crisis over its prosecution of former President Donald J. Trump and the preferential treatment of Hunter Biden as well as allegations that it acted to coverup an IRS investigation into the presidential son.
On Friday, the nation’s top law enforcement official spoke to reporters amid criticism from Republicans over the sweetheart deal that the DOJ gave to the younger Biden who was allowed to cop a plea to two paltry misdemeanor tax charges and a gun charge that will be dropped if he enters a diversion program, allowing him to avoid jail at a time when the leading candidate to the opposition party faces spending the rest of his life in prison.

Garland was asked by a reporter about congressional Republicans’ threats to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt and whether the American people “have cause to be concerned about the integrity of the components of this Justice Department,” and what he had to say “about how they’re acting.”
“I certainly understand that some have chosen to attack the integrity of the Justice Department, its components, and its employees by claiming that we do not treat like cases alike. This constitutes an attack on an institution that is essential to American democracy and essential to the safety of the American people,” he responded in what some saw as a veiled threat from a man who has not hesitated to unleash his forces against political enemies of the ruling Democratic Party.
“Nothing could be further from the truth,” Garland continued. “You’ve all heard me say many times that we make our cases based on the facts and the law. These are not just words, these are what we live by. They’re the foundation of the way we make these decisions. The agents of the FBI as well as the DEA, the ATF, our deputy U.S. Marshals every day, often at great personal risk, protect the American people and secure its safety. Our cases are based on their work. I could not be more proud to work with them.”
Garland’s ominous remarks came on the day after he and Hunter Biden both attended a lavish state dinner for India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House, giving rise to even more criticism of the stench of impropriety that has emanated from the Justice Department since he took over with Democrats having comandeered the nation’s institutions, using powerful agencies as their secret political police.

Whether one of the enemies of “democracy” could be constitutional law expert Jonathan Turley is unknown but the George Washington University professor and legal analyst excoriated Garland as a “failure” in a recent column for The Hill.
“Merrick Garland began his tenure as attorney general with the stated intention of restoring faith in the Justice Department and the rule of law. By that standard, Garland has been a failure,” Turley wrote. “In fact, if anything, the crisis of faith surrounding his department has only deepened on his watch, and he bears some of the blame.”
