Al Franken’s joke about a porn star ‘taking Trump down’ doesn’t go over too well online

Al Franken, the disgraced former Democratic senator from Minnesota who resigned in 2017 over sexual misconduct allegations, is guest-hosting “The Daily Show” this week and he wasted little time trashing Donald Trump.

“You know, last week, I was thinking there’s not going to be much news when I host, but oh, boy, it’s going to be an exciting week,” Franken opened, as he began the “Headlines” segment of the show, which began with the news that Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg may indict Trump over a $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Davis in 2016.

“Finally!” Franken celebrated, as the low-information audience cheered enthusiastically.

“Who would’ve ever thought that Donald Trump would be brought down a porn star?” Franken quipped. “All of us, right? It was pretty predictable.”

“Donald Trump paid Stormy Daniels to keep this story quiet, and here we are still talking about it seven years later,” Franken added. “So that would be another failed Trump business venture.”

Somewhat fittingly, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., was Franken’s star guest for the night and he was more optimistic, suggesting an indictment would “help” Trump’s election chances.

Graham also bet Franken $20 that Trump will beat President Biden in 2024.

As for Franken’s decision to “go there” with the porn star remark, one might think the comedian would have steered clear given his own discrepancies. Then again, this is Al Franken we are talking about.

Suffice it to say, the decision did not pan out well for him online… here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
