Alyssa Griffin says RNC has little control over Trump, predicts he’ll burn down GOP if not the nominee

Time spent as the token Republican on ABC’s “The View” has evidently led cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin to believe she speaks for the GOP and Monday she used that perceived platform to predict what ends she thinks former President Donald Trump will go to should he not secure the 2024 presidential nomination.

The field for the 2016 Republican presidential primary was so extensive, boasting 17 notable candidates at its peak, several debates were broken into two tiers to split the pack by poll rankings until the crowd thinned out.

During that heated contest, candidates were asked to signal their support for whoever the nominee would ultimately be, and the question as to whether that might happen again, and if Trump would acquiesce, left Farah Griffin certain he’d sooner “burn the entirety of the GOP to the ground.”

“The reality is Donald Trump, through a spokesperson, already put out a statement saying, of course, he’ll support the nominee because it will be him. So, like big hedge there,” she quipped. “The problem with it is, sure, it’s good party politics, but Ronna McDaniel has no enforcement capability here. If Donald Trump’s still polling within 40 percent within the Republican Party, which he currently is, she’s not gonna keep him off the debate stage.”

As previously covered, McDaniel had appeared with CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union” Sunday where the Republican National Committee chair was asked about the return of a loyalty pledge and whether Trump would be on board.

“We haven’t put the criteria out, but I expect the pledge will be part of it. It was part of 2016,” McDaniel noted before reminding that Trump had agreed then. “Anybody getting on the Republican National Committee debate stage should be able to say, I will support the will of the voters and the eventual nominee of our party.”

To that end, Farah Griffin continued, “He doesn’t need to be on her debate stage. He’s still gonna be able to control quite a bit of the party and frankly, the fact that Ronna McDaniel is still running the RNC underscores Trump’s death grip on the party. The GOP has lost consecutively in several cycles under her leadership, and we haven’t chosen to go a different direction.”

As a reminder, when the 2016 race was down to Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) and the barely polling then-Gov. John Kasich (Ohio) who refused to drop out, the businessman declined to engage in a one-on-one debate with the Texas lawmaker as he walked himself into the primary winner’s circle.

Farah Griffin then proceeded to add to her own argument by reiterating her position as a Never Trumper, reminding the table of Trump Derangement Syndrome sufferers, “I have said many times, if Trump is the nominee, I will not vote for him. I believe you put country over party, and that should be a normal thing. I don’t like how our system is so rigged in favor of a primary system that actually puts up often not the strongest candidate.”

“If Donald Trump is not the nominee he will burn the entirety of the GOP to the ground purely out of spite and revenge,” she asserted. “He’ll run third party or he’ll trash whoever our nominee is.”

This opinion came courtesy of the same “lifelong conservative” who recently bashed Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) and Trump as leaders of “big government conservatism versus traditional small government” as she positioned herself in favor of New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu and former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan as opposed to either of the popular GOP leaders.
