Arkansas cops barge into home, arrest dad for piercing teen son’s ear: ‘Body art without a license’

A video captured the moment an Arkansas father faced with a felony charge was confronted by police, appearing to force their way into his home to arrest him Thursday for the alleged crime of piercing his son’s ear.

The arrest of 45-year-old Jeremy Sherland of Tontitown, Arkansas went viral after his own son captured the moment four officers pushed through the entry to take him into custody. With one hand holding the front door ajar and the other braced on the jamb, the homeowner could be seen struggling as an officer pushed his way through to administer handcuffs as three others quickly entered in from behind.

They were immediately confronted by Sherland’s wife who demanded to know, “Why are you in my house?”

Shortly after, Sherland could be heard laughing as he repeated the charge, “Body art without a license!”

According to a statement released to the public, on April 20, “the Tontitown Police Department was contacted by a Springdale Police School Resource Officer, in reference to conducting a welfare concern on a juvenile male who resides in Tontitown.”

“The SPD SRO stated a male juvenile went to school with a piercing in his left ear,” the statement continued, referencing Sherland’s son. “While sitting in class talking with other students and a teacher present, the juvenile male stated his dad was drunk and put him in a choke hold and shoved the piercing in his ear.”

The Tontitown Police indicated that the “probable cause arrest” occurred on their second trip to Sherland’s residence after the father had previously “refused to allow officers to speak with his son and refused to answer questions.”

Their account of the arrest contended, “Officers asked Jeremy to step outside, Jeremy refused standing in the doorway with his hands behind the door and wall posturing himself. Officers told Jeremy he was under arrest and explained the probable cause for the arrest. Jeremy refused to comply. Officers then took him into custody.”

Sherland’s wife and son followed the officers out into the street as they escorted him away and she could be heard proclaiming, “It takes three cops — four cops — coming into my house with no permission. No permission and busted in my front door.”

Despite the son stating clearly, “I wanted my ears pierced,” Sherland faced a Class D felony under Arkansas law that states “An artist shall not perform body art on a person under sixteen (16) years of age, regardless of parental consent.” It is also illegal “to perform body art in any unlicensed facility.”

Naturally, many could not overlook the fact that the father’s arrest over pierced ears came while the country is in the midst of a debate with President Joe Biden leading the leftist charge to, in some cases, force parents to subject their children to chemical castration and gender mutilation.

Biden had referred to laws prohibiting such acts as “close to sinful” in March as he pushed for federal action to combat those states that had moved to protect children.

On top of the alleged felony, the father was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental operations, and spent two nights in Washington County jail before his release Saturday on $1,500 bond

He is expected to appear in court Monday for a hearing and has an additional court date scheduled for May 22, specifically regarding the felony charge.
