Armed teacher leaps into action when he hears teen girl scream for help outside his home

David Garza is the epitome of a good samaritan after he took drastic action to save a teen girl being attacked right in front of his house.

Garza, a teacher at a Houston-area middle school, was at his home a little after midnight on July 28 when he heard screams from in front of the house. When he looked out the window, what he saw prompted him to take immediate action.

“I looked out the window and I saw a man beating up a woman on the ground … trying to take her clothes off,” he said to KHOU11.

He grabbed his firearms and ran out the door, where doorbell footage captures the tense moment.

“I ran outside, asked what’s going on. The girl screamed, ‘I’m 15, help me!’ I pointed the gun at him and told him to get off her,” the teacher continued.

Apparently, the young girl had been followed by the man after getting off the METRO bus and he was holding her down by the hair when Garza intervened.

“He took his hands off right away. He went chasing after her, I went chasing after him and she got away,” Garza explained.

A neighbor credits the teacher with saving the teen from the unthinkable.

“At first, I was scared, I thought she was going to get raped. I think if he didn’t come out, she would have gotten raped,” the neighbor said.

Crime Stoppers victim advocate Andy Kahan also praised Garza, but wonders if the suspect has attempted this before, and if he will strike again.

“If he’s willing to do this, it makes me wonder — is this your first time? We need to get you off the streets.”

Garza also revealed that this is not the first time he’s jumped in to help a child in danger.

“I think it’s something anyone else would have done — come help a child.”

The suspect was reportedly seen wearing a black hoodie with a white Reebok logo, blue jeans, and white tennis shoes, and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Crime Stoppers tipline at 713-222-TIPS (8477) or submit it online at www.crime-stoppers.org. There is a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest.
