Biden triggers whirlwind of backlash after refusing to call border fiasco a ‘crisis’

President Joe Biden triggered a whirlwind of backlash Saturday by claiming there is no southern U.S. border crisis.

As he was leaving the White House for Camp David, a Fox News reporter bluntly asked him whether or not there was a crisis at the border. The president replied with a “no.”

Listen:

“No, but I have been pushing them — my Republican colleagues since they got in office. I think we have to make major changes to the border,”  he said without specifying what sort of changes he meant.

Democrats have thus far pushed for changes that’d do little to stymie the flow of illegal alien migrants into the U.S. Instead their proposals would just make it easier/faster to process more illegals into the United States.

Meanwhile, Democrats refuse to touch congressional Republicans’ far more legitimate proposal.

“The H.R. 2 Secure the Border bill is a sweeping package passed by House Republicans in May,” The Hill notes. “The package included limits to asylum protections, provisions to resume construction of the border wall, and an expansion of the qualifications for refugee status, among other changes.”

Regardless, the president’s refusal to even acknowledge that there is a crisis inspired a flood of stern backlash from congressional Republicans.

Here’s just a small sample of the backlash:

The responses go on for days.

One of the best responses came from former Illinois congressional candidate Jack Lombardi II.

“Joe Biden says there is NO CRISIS at the southern border. Which confirms my suspicions. The invasion is on purpose and is why this election objection was filed. What do you have to say to Joe Biden?” he tweeted.

He had a point.

Did you know that prior to Biden assuming office in 2021, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency had a program, 287(g), to remove illegal alien migrants from the U.S.?

According to ICE, the program “enhances the safety and security of our nation’s communities by allowing ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) to partner with state and local law enforcement agencies to identify and remove incarcerated criminal noncitizens who are amenable to removal from the U.S. before they are released into the community.”

Yet in January of 2021, the month that Biden assumed office, ICE quietly placed a “hold” on the program. Not until August of 2023 was the “hold” revealed publicly.

“Such a hold does not appear to have been authorized by a law enacted by Congress, nor has ICE ever taken any official action under the Administrative Procedure Act (APA) in order to create or impose the hold,” according to a press release from the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI).

“Furthermore, the agency never even publicly acknowledged the hold’s existence prior to August 2023, more than two and a half years after its apparent inception,” the press release continues.

Last week IRLI sued ICE demanding the agency explain why it chose to place the valuable program on hold.

“Increased cooperation between ICE and local law enforcement is critical and makes our communities safer, so of course this administration wants to limit that effort,” IRLI executive director and general counsel Dale L. Wilcox said in a statement.

“There is no benefit to this country or its legal residents by keeping criminal aliens in the country, yet it appears to be a priority of this White House. The American people own those emails, yet we are not allowed to see them because it might embarrass this administration and expose their extremist agenda,” he added.
