‘Bill, you gotta read more’: Winsome Sears smacks Bill Maher with truth about the drag debate

Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears (R-Va.) detonated some eye-opening truth bombs on Friday, telling HBO “Real Time” host Bill Maher that he’s “gotta read more.”

The conversation with Sears and Tablet columnist James Kirchick centered around the “trendy” pushing of transgenderism in America’s education system, with schools teaching that “there is no such thing as sex.”

“I’m a parent. I’m a parent all day. I get to decide what happens in my child’s life,” Sears said. “Not you. Not you. Not the government. Not anybody. I don’t co-parent. I had this child. I’m responsible for this child. Anything happens to Little Johnny, you’re calling me as you should.”

“So what I’m saying now is, if I don’t want my child given lap dances at school by a drag queen,” she stated, “I don’t want it done.”

“That’s happening,” she added.

Kirchick asked if Sears thought the state should have the right to interfere?”

“I’m talking about as a parent,” Sears replied. “Forget the state. I’m talking about as a parent, this is what happens to my child.”

Which is when Maher showed his ignorance on the subject.

“I’m not sure about lap dances,” he smirked.

“It’s happening,” she insisted. “Did you see it?”

While Maher acknowledged that there are drag queens “reading to children in schools,” he couldn’t believe they were bringing poles and giving lap dances.

Bless his heart.

“Bill, you gotta read more,” Sears told the host.

When speaking about the horrific Nashville shooting at a Christian school, Kirchick noted that the media is “misgendering and dead naming the murderer.”

“They are referring to the murderer by their given name and not their chosen name, referring to her as a woman, as opposed to what her identity apparently was, was a man. Which is not the media usually does these things. They’re usually very particular about the subjective sense of gender identity and respecting that,” he said. “If someone says they’re a man they’re a man. But in this case, they’re not doing that.”

“Hang on,” Sears replied. “You know what? This person murdered six people. I don’t really care who you say you are. You murdered six people, and three of them were children. You don’t get a say.”

And on the issue of gun control, Sears had thoughts on “the AR.”

“I’m a Marine,” she said. “I know how to use it.”

She made clear what would happen to an intruder in her home.

“If you’re breaking into my home while I’m waiting on the police to come, I’m gonna shoot you,” she stated. “That’s just the way it is. I’m gonna pray for you, but I’m gonna shoot you.”

To which Maher conceded, “That’s why I have a gun.”

Sears’ appearance on the HBO show was, for many on Twitter, a lesson in how conservatives should take down liberal talking points.

“She refuted the typical liberal talking points with grace, charm and humor tonight,” tweeted comedian and filmmaker Greg Price.

“A very well-spoken Republican,” wrote another. She’ll… go places given her straightforward approach.”

And a third stated simply, “She is amazing.”
