Bodycam footage of drunk Tyson Foods heir’s arrest released

The Fayetteville Police Department in Arkansas has released stunning bodycam footage showing the arrest of Tyson Foods CFO John R. Tyson, the great-grandson of Tyson Foods founder John W. Tyson.

The actual arrest occurred on Nov. 6th when four officers — Cpl. Levi Samuels and officers S. Walker, M. Davis, and R. Woods — were dispatched to the home of a woman who reported “an unknown and unwelcome male sleeping inside her bedroom,” according to the police complaint.

“We arrived at 0155 and were met outside the home by the caller and her two friends. After they briefly explained the circumstances, Cpl. Samuels asked for permission to enter the residence, which [she] granted. After entering the residence, we found a male sleeping in a bed inside the downstairs bedroom,” the complaint reads.

That male was John R. Tyson.

The officers introduced themselves but Tyson kept sleeping. This prompted them to retrieve Tyson’s wallet from his pants, check his ID, and use his actual name — John — to try to wake him up and get him out of the bed.

“John! I need you to wake up and talk to me before I drag you out of here butt naked,” one of them hollered.

But Tyson refused to comply, so the officers placed him under arrest for criminal trespass and public intoxication.

“After multiple verbal attempts to wake the male, he eventually sat up; however, he laid back down and continued to close his eyes. As a result, Cpl. Samuels and I removed the blankets and placed him into handcuffs. During this time, the male appeared disoriented and confused. For example, he repeatedly stated ‘no’ and would not place his arms behind his back and locked his arms out when assisted,” the complaint reads.

“Eventually, we successfully and safely applied wrist restraints (checked for fit/double locked). During initial contact with Tyson, I could smell the odor of intoxicants coming from his person. In addition, Tyson appeared disoriented and displayed slow and sluggish movements while being escorted out of the residence,” it continues.

Tyson was then tossed into a patrol car, where he was seen in additional video footage:

Tyson has since apologized to investors for his bad behavior.

“I’m embarrassed, and I want to let you know that I take full responsibility for my actions. I just wanted you guys to hear this directly from me and to know that I’m committed to making sure this never happens again,” he said during the company’s most recent quarterly conference call, according to CNBC.

Tyson, the company, has meanwhile launched an investigation of its own, though critics are now demanding a third-party investigation instead.

“Tyson Foods has announced its own board members would oversee a review into the incident, though corporate governance experts are calling for an independent investigation. Tyson Foods said a three-member governance committee on the board of directors will lead its review process,” the Daily Mail notes.

This is all bad news for Tyson, the guy, given as he’s also been facing scrutiny over his appointment in September as the company’s chief financial officer.

“His appointment, despite his relative lack of experience, raised some eyebrows on Wall Street,” according to CNBC.

Regarding his arrest, critics say Tyson’s behavior in the arrest videos suggests he was more than just drunk. They believe, in fact, he may have been on drugs as well.

And conservatives wonder why the police have released Tyson’s bodycam footage but not the bodycam footage that was recorded during the incident late last month involving House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband.
