A man in Chicago named Aimen Halim filed a class action lawsuit against Buffalo Wild Wings, contending their boneless “wings” are glorified chicken nuggets, prompting an epic response from the restaurant chain which admitted they aren’t actually “chicken wings.”

“This clear-cut case of false advertising should not be permitted, as consumers should be able to rely on the plain meaning of a product’s name and receive what they are promised,” the lawsuit charges, according to KTTV.

Halim argued that the food outlet’s wings were actually “slices of chicken breast meat deep-fried like wings.”

Fitting the very definition of a frivolous lawsuit, the filing claimed that Halim suffered “financial injury” after he purchased high-priced wings without allegedly realizing what they were made of. He asserts that he later regretted his decision and is seeking unspecified damages. He filed the suit in US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on Friday.

Halim is arguing that if people knew what the wings were really made of, they might not buy the wings or would only be willing to pay less for them. He admitted that they are made out of chicken breast meat.

According to TMZ, Halim’s lawsuit claims that other restaurants selling boneless chicken take pains to avoid marketing the product as “wings.” He is asserting that the company uses false and deceptive business practices.

Buffalo Wild Wings, which has more than 1,200 restaurants worldwide, responded to the lawsuit with a snarky tweet on Monday.

“It’s true,” the restaurant chain tweeted. “Our boneless wings are all white meat chicken. Our hamburgers contain no ham. Our buffalo wings are 0% buffalo.”

The menu for Buffalo Wild Wings offers “wings’ in two varieties. The first one is called “traditional” and is the bone-in variety. The second alternative is “boneless” which has Halim incensed since the meat does not come from actual chicken wings.

Both varieties are “handspun in your favorite sauce of dry seasoning,” the menu declares.

Six “traditional” wings go for $11.29 and the cost of six “boneless” wings is $9.79, according to TMZ.

The price is higher at Buffalo Wild Wings but the taste is arguably better. At McDonald’s, a pack of 20 chicken nuggets averages approximately $5 at some locations, according to FastFoodMenuPrices. At Wendy’s, you’ll pay about $5.99 for 10 nuggets. At Burger King, you get 10 chicken nuggets, a drink, and a small fry for $5.99.

During the pandemic, the cost of actual chicken wings jumped. By August 2022, prices for chicken wings had dropped back to pre-pandemic levels, according to a report by the United States Department of Agriculture.

Today reports that the prices dropped due to an increase in supply. Some restaurants who switched to the cheaper boneless variety have kept it that way rather than returning to the bone-in variety which in turn caused the price of bone-in wings to decrease.

Buffalo Wild Wings’ menu plainly says that the boneless wings are made from “juicy all-white chicken” which is marinated in spices and then breaded. The company started selling the item in 2003 and it quickly became one of its most popular menu items.

The court dismissed the lawsuit on Monday, ruling that it had inadequately stated where the two companies named in the complaint, Buffalo Wild Wings and its parent company Inspire Brands, are incorporated. The court has given Halim until March 27 to file an amended complaint, according to Business Insider.
