A frightening crash, good Samaritans with superhuman strength, and a moment of shocking realization marked a Brooklyn neighborhood’s Saturday.
Home surveillance cameras captured the moment a speeding minivan, reportedly being driven by 61-year-old Olubunmi Awoluyi, crashed into a black Jeep and maroon pickup truck before flipping onto its side.

Police claim the incident occurred after Awoluyi allegedly ran from the scene of another accident, according to NBC New York. He had allegedly struck another two vehicles and attempted a U-turn where he struck a 26-year-old mother and her 3-year-old child, who was in a stroller at the time.
Eudes James, the owner of both the Jeep and the pickup, led the effort of bystanders who quickly got to work righting the van and helping the driver.
“[The driver] was bleeding out of his mouth. There was blood on the road. It was kinda scary watching somebody being pinned and being crushed,” James said, according to CBS.
“I’m actually living in New Hampshire right now. I came down to see my mom, spend some time with her for the weekend, but unfortunately, I am here now until I can figure out how I can get back home.”
It became apparent that this was not your standard accident when the crowd saw what Awoluyi allegedly had in his vehicle.
“He was drunk because we find in his car three bottles of open Hennessy bottles,” said delivery driver Danny Square, who was at the scene of both accidents.
“I don’t know where he was going, he tried to hit someone and flee so I had to chase him,” he said, explaining why he followed the driver.
“When the firefighter opened the door on the scene, that’s when the liquor bottle fell out,” said Shanique Fox, a witness.
The driver was reportedly taken into custody at the scene and the mom and young daughter who were struck by the vehicle in the previous accident are expected to recover. Awoluyi is being charged with DWI, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident.
