The Campbell’s Soup Company is facing heavy fire after a top official was recorded trash-talking the brand’s customers, products, and employees.
The recording was made last November when former Campbell’s employee Robert Garza met with Martin Bally, the company’s vice president and chief information security officer, to discuss his salary.
During the meeting, Bally ranted and raved for over an hour about Campbell’s customers, products, and employees, according to a lawsuit against Campbell filed last Thursday by Garza.

He literally said on a secret recording the company is using “3D printed meat”

The suit reveals that Bally, at one point, disparagingly said that Campbell’s makes food for “poor people,” according to Detroit station WDIV.
“We have s–t for f–king poor people,” he said. “Who buys our s–t? I don’t buy Campbell’s products barely anymore. It’s not healthy now that I know what the f–k‘s in it. Bioengineered meat — I don’t wanna eat a piece of chicken that came from a 3-D printer.”
The suit also reveals that Bally trashed his Indian colleagues.
“F–king Indians don’t know a f–king thing,” he said. “They couldn’t think for their f–king selves.”
And lastly, Bally admitted to Garza that he sometimes works while high on marijuana edibles.
Garza, who said he felt “pure disgust” over Bally’s remarks, initially kept the recording to himself until January of this year, when he brought it to his direct supervisor, J.D. Aupperle.
Twenty days later, Garza, who lives in the Michigan town of Monroe, was terminated.
“He reached out to his supervisor and told the supervisor what Martin was saying, and then out of nowhere, my client was fired,” his attorney, Zachary Runyan, told WDIV. “He was really sticking up for other people.”
“He went to his boss and said, ‘Martin is saying this about Indian coworkers we have, he’s saying this about people who buy our food — who keep our company open, and I don’t think that should be allowed.’ And the response to Robert sticking up for other people is he gets fired, which is ridiculous,” the attorney added.
Garza was caught completely off guard by the termination.
“He had never had any disciplinary action; they had never written him up for work performance,” Runyan noted.
Garza wasn’t pleased by the “simply terrible” way he was fired.
“They have a motto: ‘We treat you like family here at Campbell‘s — come work for us,'” Garza said. “‘We treat our employees like family.’ That’s not the case.”
Campbell’s, for its part, has reportedly launched an investigation.
“If accurate, the comments in the recording are unacceptable,” a spokesperson said. “They do not reflect our values and the culture of our company. We are actively investigating this matter.”
The company has also disputed Bally’s claims.
“We use 100% real chicken in our soups,” James F. Regan, director of external communications at Campbell’s, told Newsweek. “The chicken meat comes from long-trusted, USDA-approved U.S. suppliers and meets our high-quality standards. All of our soups are made with No Antibiotics Ever chicken meat. Any claims to the contrary are completely false.”
“We are proud of the food we make, the people who make it, and the high-quality ingredients we use,” a company spokesperson likewise told the Daily Mail. “The comments on the recording are not only inaccurate – they are patently absurd.”
“Keep in mind, the alleged comments are made by an IT person, who has nothing to do with how we make our food. If the recording is legitimate, the comments are unacceptable. They do not reflect our values and the culture of our company,” they added.
Meanwhile, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has launched an investigation of his own:

In final remarks to WDIV, Garza slammed Bally.
“He has no filter,” the former Campbell employee said. “He thinks he’s a C-level executive at a Fortune 500 company, and he can do whatever he wants because he’s an executive.”
