International travelers have been advised about potential discrimination before heading to the United States — by Canada.
What was once considered common sense has now been demonized as the intolerant American right by corporate media, and it appeared that the Canadian government was working at perpetuating that bogeyman. Tuesday, an update for “2SLGBTQI+ travellers” was posted warning over unspecified dangers that could be lurking across their southern border.
“Some states have enacted laws and policies that may affect 2SLGBTQI+ persons. Check relevant state and local laws,” the government site warned before a link that connected to generic international travel concerns like nations that don’t recognize an “X” gender on passports and the reality that some nations have criminalized homosexuality alongside an array of deviant behaviors.
Commenting in a circuitous fashion that rivaled Vice President Kamala Harris’ word salad proficiency, Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said Tuesday when asked about the advisory, “As someone who has had the real privilege of serving as Canada’s foreign minister, I know that our travel advisories are done very professionally.”
“We have professionals in the government whose job is to look carefully around the world and to monitor whether there are particular dangers to particular groups of Canadians. That’s their job and it’s the right thing to do,” she continued in a clip shared by Canada’s Rebel News.

According to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) there are 495 so-called “anti-LGBTQ bills” they are monitoring across 46 states, 83 of which have become law this year while another 216 were said to have failed.
Garnering much of the attention has been Florida where Gov. Ron DeSantis and the legislature had been hit with a number of travel advisories from groups that included the NAACP, Equality Florida, and the Human Rights Campaign earlier this year ahead of his announced bid for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
“Because of Ron DeSantis and his frenzied appeal to extremists, LGBTQ+ people in Florida are finding themselves in a state of emergency every single day,” said Human Rights Campaign president Kelley Robinson. “Since the day he took office, Governor DeSantis has weaponized his position to weave bigotry, hate, and discrimination into public law for his own political gain. We see it as our duty to join Equality Florida — and LULAC and the NAACP — to provide guidance to our community.”

On the matter of the travel advisory, a spokesperson for Global Affairs Canada said in a statement to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation “Since the beginning of 2023, certain states in the U.S. have passed laws banning drag shows and restricting the transgender community from access to gender-affirming care and from participation in sporting events.”
“The information is provided to enable travelers to make their own informed decisions regarding destinations,” the statement continued. “Outside Canada, laws and customs related to sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics can be very different from those in Canada.”
Many couldn’t help but overlook the absurdity of the advisory, especially as some pointed out the inanity of attempting to satisfy the pronoun crowd. Even the Canadian website was evidently guilty of what would no doubt be considered passive discrimination as it read, “Keep in Mind…The decision to travel is the sole responsibility of the traveller. The traveller is also responsible for his or her own personal safety.” (emphasis added)
“‘His or her safety’ What about xe and xer’s safety?” mocked one account as others shared their thoughts.
