Chicago charges teenage boys with misdemeanors after they crash stolen car, kill six-month-old baby

Two teenage Chicago boys, ages 14 and 17,  have been charged with misdemeanors after they allegedly stole a Hyundai sedan, plowed through an intersection, and rammed it into a family, killing their six-month-old baby boy.

While police say the offensively soft charges could be upgraded pending further investigation into the crash, each of the boys is currently only facing a single count of criminal trespassing.

The minors were speeding down West Washington Road on April 16 when they blew through an intersection and T-boned the pickup truck containing infant Cristian Uvidia, his mother, and his two older sisters.

Neighbors heard the crash and ran to pull Cristian out of the car. CPR was attempted, WGN9 reports, but to no avail.

“I laid the baby down and started immediately assessing the situation and trying to do CPR,” witness Shawn Walker said, but he wasn’t able to save the child.

“Unfortunately, he was brain dead, and then the next day he passed,” Cristian’s cousin, Analisse Rivera, told the station.

According to Rivera, Cristian was a happy, playful baby.

“He always had this big smile on his face, he loved to sing and dance,” she said.

Cristian’s mom and siblings are still in the hospital, but they are expected to recover from their injuries.

“It’s been a rough few days, it’s felt like ten years,” Rivera admitted. “This is like truly all of our worst nightmares.”

There were four people inside the stolen vehicle, witnesses said, and police said the two teens are in custody.

“They stole a car, and they stole our entire lives in that one instant,” Rivera said. “I don’t know what the price of the car was, but I’m sure it wasn’t equivalent to the life of a child.”

She has started a GoFundMe for the family, part of which will be used for medical expenses.

“Our lives were alternated forever,” Rivera wrote. “Our sweet boy Cristian, or as we call him at home ‘Cristiansito’, life was was cut short at just 6 months.”

“He suffered from an impact that fractured his skull, causing his brain to swell and eventually killing him,” she explained. “We are devastated, and we are broken. We will miss his sweet smile, as he was a joy to everyone that he met.”

As of this writing, $38,210 dollars had been raised — more than $13,00 over the $25,000 goal.

As BizPac Review has reported, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx has long been blasted for her soft-on-crime policies. Her leniency toward violent offenders has prompted top prosecutors to resign.

Meanwhile, critics say Chicago’s Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson will likely be more of a disaster for the Windy City than his predecessor, the catastrophic Lori Lightfoot.

“You know, this notion that the only way in which, you know, we can protect the people of Chicago and the people of our country is this notion of being tough, you know,” he said earlier this month in an interview. “What is required in this moment is for us to be smart about our investments, to be critical in our thinking, and then to make sure that what we’re doing actually works.”

Chicago crime is so out of control, HBO host Bill Maher questioned why more people aren’t talking about it.

The controversial comedian pointed out on the most recent episode of “Real Time” that the majority of the fatal shootings “are young black men killing other young black men.”

“Why doesn’t anybody talk about that?” Maher asked. “Why aren’t there, you know, a hundred, giant black celebrities who would have the respect of those people say ‘what are you doing to yourself, why are you killing each other?'”

In the meantime, Cristian’s family is left trying to cope with their heartbreaking loss.

“We are a family of believers in Jesus, and we know that we will see our sweet boy again one day. Until that day comes, we will cherish the short time we had with him forever,” Rivera wrote. “Earth lost a beautiful baby boy, but heaven gained its most beautiful angel.”
