Chicago mayor slammed for endorsing ‘Abolish ICE’ in snowplow naming contest

A mayoral endorsement for an otherwise “light-hearted” snowplow naming contest in Chicago stood as the latest example of the left’s support for “lawlessness.”

The same radicals responsible for pushing the Defund the Police movement and soft-on-crime prosecutors have found a new anti-law enforcement movement to hang their hat on. Proving that no facet of society was safe from ideology-driven messaging, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) pitched his support for naming a snowplow, “Abolish ICE.”

Appearing on MS NOW with “Politics Nation” host Rev. Al Sharpton, Hizzoner accused President Donald Trump of using U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as a “privatized force” to “enact terror” as he put his stamp of approval on the name representing opposition to the defense of America’s national sovereignty.

“And not just terror, but a great deal of harm against people. And so, over the course of several years in this city, we have stood firm on our values. And it just happened to coincide with the time in which we name all of our fleet utilities. And of course, you know, we have to take a stronger look at how this administration has used ICE and how it has caused tremendous harm,” insisted Johnson. “So that’s why that particular name of this truck being named ‘Abolish ICE’ has my full and complete endorsement.”

Earlier in December, the city opened submissions for the fourth annual naming contest, giving residents until Jan. 10 or until 20,000 entries were made to add to a list of past winners that included “Scoop, There It Is!” “Been There, Plowed That,” “CTRL-SALT-DELETE,” and “Da Plow.”

“The snowplow naming contest is a crowd favorite, and we are as excited as ever to see the creativity and Chicago pride on display with this year’s submissions,” read a statement from Department of Streets and Sanitation Commissioner Cole Stallard. “This is a great opportunity to engage with the community and showcase the hard work of the City staff in clearing snow and ice from the roads.”

From the submissions, the list will be whittled down to 25 finalists, prompting a vote to determine the six ultimate winners to have their names painted onto snowplows in operation around the city.

Johnson, whose city is facing a massive funding crisis exacerbated by hundreds of millions in vendor contracts awarded to accommodate illegal aliens, prompting efforts at new tax revenue streams, has made opposing Trump on illegal aliens a key issue of his, including deeming the term “racist, nasty” and “some sort of sci-fi message.”

Meanwhile, responses outside of the open borders echo chamber not only voiced opposition to the political proposal, but to what it stood for as well.

Sharing a headline from The Chicago Tribune on the naming contest, retired Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel wrote on X, “This is disgusting. @ICEgov is a federal law enforcement agency, Mr. Mayor. Endorsing ‘Abolish ICE’ is an endorsement of lawlessness. If you tolerate this rhetoric, you have no business overseeing [the Chicago Police Department].”

Likewise, a user argued, “The snow plow names are supposed to be fun and light-hearted. Not political. Don’t ruin a fun thing.”

In response, another suggested with the support of Johnson’s office, the name “Is a fun, light-hearted and nonpolitical” choice, earning the follow-up, “True.”
