A CNN analyst used the death of a Fox News cameraman in Ukraine to post a set of tweets so “cruel” that it triggered bipartisan blowback, with even left-wingers who “hate Fox News” calling for her to be fired and saying she ought to feel ashamed of herself.
Yet New Yorker staff writer and CNN global affairs analyst Susan Glasser still remained employed as of Wednesday morning.
In fact, hours after Glasser posted the “cruel” tweets early Tuesday afternoon, she appeared on CNN to offer her “analysis” and wasn’t asked a single question about her tweets.
Critics say it was as if either the CNN hosts she spoke with, Victor Blackwell and Alisyn Camerota, hadn’t heard about the tweets, didn’t care about the tweets or perhaps even agreed with the tweets.
View her tweets below, or access screenshots here (as of Wednesday morning, she hadn’t deleted them yet):
What a tragedy. A cameraman died covering the war for a TV network that airs a pro-Putin propagandist as its top-rated primetime host. https://t.co/zKHXRciMYu

So grateful for the heroic work that Pierre and all the journalists, Ukrainian and foreign, have been doing risking their lives to show us the horror of this war. Makes the years of lies and propaganda so much harder to take—there are truly deadly consequences.

As previously reported, Glasser’s tweets provoked bipartisan anger, even from the types of people who think Fox News shows are “dung,” though to be clear, plenty of CNN haters chimed in as well:
You’re just a gross human being. I’m liberal but feel Tucker has the most honest show on cable. Of course that’s like comparing piles of dung for the best one.

You should truly be ashamed of yourself. I can’t believe this tweet is still up. How do you face yourself in the mirror? Hate Fox, fine, plenty of people do, but this? Just plain cruel and absolutely pointless.

I hope CNN fires you. I’m a liberal but what a horrific and cruel and heartless thing to say. I never want to hear any opinion of yours again, loser. @cnn

I think CNN is bad for the country, but i would never belittle the death of a person that worked there for any reason. You might want to self reflect. Really evil behavior.

It’s incredibly sad to think you are so full of hatred that you feel it’s acceptable to tweet such a cold-hearted, cruel thing at someone’s death regardless of who they work for (that you don’t like). You represent what is so horrible in the world. Hope you’re proud of yourself.

How heartless and cruel you are. Just a typical Lefty. You’re only looking to score points on someone else’s death.

He was a human being. No matter where he worked. You would whine and scream to the mountain tops about cruel people were being if it were said about your husband.

Glasser wasn’t alone in her “cruelty.”
About an hour after she posted her tweets, The Washington Post “media critic” Margaret Sullivan — a woman who’s often compared to CNN’s Brian Stelter because of her very extreme bias — retweeted Glasser’s first tweet and wrote, “Summing it up succinctly.”
To Sullivan’s credit, she had the foresight to delete her tweet soon after, though screenshots still remain for posterity’s sake:

She too faced backlash:
With the tweet you deleted, you showed yourself capable of being equally as cruel as the big orange man you despise. In your defense, Twitter DOES bring out the worst in people.
— Michael Pyle (@ThePyleFyle) March 15, 2022
You are evil. You post about a Fox News correspondent thinking it’s ok to attack a rival using the senseless death of another human being… for what purpose? So you can rail at Fox? Who cares but you. Evil person!

As for Glasser’s original message, it stemmed from the establishment left and right’s frustration with Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
Carlson has been the only commentator in the entire national media to challenge the prevailing narratives surrounding the conflict in Ukraine.
However, Carlson’s observations have also been reflected by a large number of non-establishment journalists, commentators and public figures, notably Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald and former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard:

Amazing interview with of the former MI6 chief with the Atlantic Council’s @B_judah (the whole gang present) where the intel goon *admits* that many western “intel leaks” media outlets are dutifully conveying aren’t real leaks but propaganda messages designed to undercut Putin. pic.twitter.com/UOzBxG5F5H

Just judge for yourself. Watch how employees of large media corporations “report” on Russia/Ukraine: almost all of it is just repeating — uncritically — what anonymous intel officials told them. This is what they regard as “real reporting.” It’s been their function for decades.
