CNN spotlights female jurors’ fury after male holdout forces Lindsay Clancy mistrial

The courtroom drama of the Lindsay Clancy triple-murder trial ended in unsatisfying fashion on Friday when a mistrial was declared, sparking outrage and cheers after the defendant was embraced as a twisted sort of feminist heroine by millions of women.

Judge William Sullivan told the court in Plymouth Superior Court in Plymouth, Massachusetts that he was declaring the mistrial after the jury said that with a “with a heavy heart” it couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict after a week of deliberations when a single holdout – reportedly a male – didn’t fall in line to acquit.

Clancy is accused of killing her three young children in 2023 before attempting suicide, blaming the rampage on postpartum psychois and bipolar disorder.

CNN zeroed in on the reaction from the female jurors.

“A mistrial has been ordered by the judge, and the question is what about the jurors?” CNN correspondent Jean Casarez asked.

“I can tell you from our producer in the courtroom that when the judge said ‘I want to tell you all how proud I am of you’ there was one female juror that was nodding her head ‘no’ as he was saying all that,” she reported from Plymouth.

“Another female juror clenching her hands into fists as she was sitting on that chair,” she continued. “All of the jurors were extremely tense. One female juror would not even open her eyes. Her eyes were gazed down in her lap. Her eyes were closed as the judge continued to talk to them about what this final decision was.”

“Another juror just nodded her head that entire time he was talking, and another female was pursing her lips,” Casarez reported. “We can now tell you the judge has left the bench, so this proceeding, this trial has now concluded.”

The mistrial came after the unnamed lone juror refused to fall in line.

Fox News reported that the holdout “is believed to be one of the three male jurors on the 12-person panel after defense attorney Kevin Reddington repeatedly referred to the unnamed juror as a male inside and outside court.”

“[The other jurors] know that they were robbed — by one man — for whatever his agenda was, who stole seven weeks of the life of these other jurors that were so attentive, so beautiful, so wonderful and listened to this evidence,” Clancy’s attorney Kevin Reddington told the press after departing the courthouse, according to the outlet.

“And you could see how defeated they were sitting there. And I got a funny feeling they could go on for another week if they had to. So, I hope that guy can sleep well at night,” Reddington said.
