CNN staffers turn executive’s office into a panic room as merger fears grow

New York Times report reveals that the $111 billion merger between Paramount-Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery has made some CNN talent nervous.

The article details how CNN’s executive in charge of on-air talent, Amy Entelis, has become a therapist of sorts for those who are experiencing anxiety over the soon-to-be-finalized merger.

“As the merger approaches, the 18th-floor Manhattan office of Amy Entelis, the CNN executive in charge of on-air talent, has turned into something of a psychiatrist’s couch for anchors and correspondents, who often drop in to air their anxieties about the looming changes,” the report reads.

Many of the concerns center around Paramount-Skydance CEO David Ellison’s friendly relationship with President Donald Trump. Ellison’s father, Larry Ellison, is a major donor to the president, and some suggest the content may be forced to trend to the right as a result of the family’s political ties.

Other worries include the possibility of CBS Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss being brought in by Ellison to conduct oversight of the network, as she was with CBS last year. This resulted in internal strife among those who disagree with the more neutral tone she has been trying to bring to the outlet’s reporting in an effort to appeal to a wider audience.

The report indicates that CNN CEO Mark Thompson has rejected the idea of sharing network “oversight” responsibilities with anyone else. Meanwhile, Anderson Cooper does not want to work with Weiss at CNN, after briefly working at 60 Minutes at the same time as Weiss before leaving his role as correspondent.
