Cocaine discovered in US Capitol Police HQ

An investigation is reportedly underway after a bag of cocaine was found at the headquarters of the United States Capitol Police (USCP).

A “roughly one-inch by one-inch zip lock bag with a small amount of a white powdery substance” was discovered and then “field tested positive for cocaine,” according to USCP.

In a press release Wednesday, USCP said, “The small bag was found on the floor of a hallway inside USCP headquarters,” located a few blocks from the U.S. Capitol, on D Street and Second Street.

“The hallway is on the second floor in an area that has been a staging spot for furniture and supplies. The area is heavily trafficked by various contractors and employees. It is also near offices such as Prisoner Processing, Crime Scene, Intel and Reports Processing,” the release stated.

“The baggie was found in the middle of the floor just before 1:00 p.m. by an officer, who immediately reported it to a supervisor,” the USCP added.

“The residue was field tested and came back positive for cocaine,” it continued. “The USCP Investigations Division has opened an investigation, which will include further testing, including DNA testing of the baggie. We will provide more information when it becomes available.”

The incident comes nearly a year after cocaine was found in the White House near a “heavily traveled area” according to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre who said at the time that many “West Wing visitors come through this particular area.”

That investigation by the Secret Service concluded without any suspects being named.
