Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk savagely tore into Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson over the atrocious spending deal he cut with Democrats to avoid a government shutdown.
“Ridiculous nonsense that… it’s this double-speak, it’s ‘I’m better than you,’ it’s this elitist garbage: ‘Oh, we’re doing a laddered CR and we’re doing this add-on amendment process.’ Cut the crap man, okay. I’ve been around for eleven years. I’ve met many politicians. I know a fraud when I see one. Cut it out,” Kirk admonished.
“You couldn’t broker a deal. You start shaking like a leaf when you get into a room with Chuck Schumer: ‘Yes sir… yeah… yes sir.’ Whatever they want, they get. They’re all praising this deal and you come out and you’re like, ‘Well, maybe, ummm… just let me take a little victory in the press conference about adding amendments and laddered CR…’ Enough!” he added in a clip from his show.
Johnson has incensed many conservatives by striking the $1.6 trillion deal, especially since no real amount of money was cut and the border deal was not included. If he keeps this up, it’s conceivable that he could face the same fate that Kevin McCarthy did and get booted as House Speaker.

Johnson announced his push for the new spending deal on Sunday, which was just McCarthy’s pact warmed over. Immediately after he did so, a number of conservative congressional Republicans blasted him for it, accusing the Speaker of caving to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
“After many weeks of dialogue and debate, we have secured hard-fought concessions to unlock the FY-24 topline numbers and allow the Appropriations Committee to finally begin negotiating and completing the twelve annual appropriations bills,” Johnson wrote to his fellow Republicans according to Mediaite.
The bill reportedly provides $886 billion for defense spending and $704 billion for nondefense spending.
“While the levels of emergency spending from FY23 will be maintained, no additional emergency funding, or additional no-outlay changes in mandatory programs (CHIMPS), will be included,” the letter asserted. “The concessions we achieved will include an additional $10 billion in cuts to the IRS mandatory funding (for a total of $20 billion), which was a key part of the Democrats’ ‘Inflation Reduction Act.’”
Hill leaders announce spending deal, setting top line spending at $1.59 trillion, the level agreed to in the debt limit law. But there are still hurdles ahead to avoid a shutdown (such as immigration.)

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) is one of the House members who won’t stand for the bill.

“We’re spending more money we don’t have,” Roy told CNN host Kaitlan Collins on Monday. “It’s just more of the same and, you know, I wish Speaker Johnson [wasn’t] doing this. I’m very disappointed and hopefully, we can try to figure out what we can do to change it in the next few days.”
On the show, he indicated that Johnson could suffer McCarthy’s fate although Republicans really don’t want to go down that road again.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) shredded the deal on X, “I am a NO to the Johnson Schumer budget deal. This $1.6 Trillion dollar budget agreement does nothing to secure the border, stop the invasion, or stop the weaponized government targeting Biden’s political enemies and innocent Americans. So much for the power of the purse!”

The House Freedom Caucus decried the so-called bipartisan legislation as well, “It’s even worse than we thought. Don’t believe the spin. Once you break through typical Washington math, the true total programmatic spending level is $1.658 trillion — not $1.59 trillion. This is total failure.”

President of Judicial Watch, Tom Fitton also let loose over the deal and did a call to arms on X, “.@SpeakerJohnson just announced plan w/Democrats that would AGAIN fully fund through ‘continuing resolutions’ the prosecutorial abuse of Trump and other election rigging, Biden’s border invasion, mass censorship, etc. Call Congress to let them know what you think: 202-225-3121.”

Conservatives are very unhappy with the deal being struck and there will be severe pushback over it. But in the end, it looks like Americans will just see more of the same insane spending from DC which has resulted in debilitating inflation that is hammering Americans.
