‘Deeply ashamed’ former Obama official Larry Summers says he’ll step back after being busted in Epstein email

The left’s aim to somehow damage the president with the Epstein files proved self-destructive as revelations about an official from two Democrat White Houses found him “ashamed.”

Last week, as the government shutdown came to a close and marked a resounding loss for the Democratic Party, an futile attempt to shift focus to late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and implicate President Donald Trump misfired bigly. Now, the latest trove of documents from the financier’s estate found economist Larry Summers “stepping away from public commitments.”

The onetime president of Harvard University who served as Treasury Secretary under President Bill Clinton and National Economic Council director under President Barack Obama had remained in contact a decade after the conductor of the “Lolita Express” had been convicted, according to text messages and emails released by the House Oversight Committee.

Within those messages, the married Summers found Epstein acting as his “wing man” in pursuit of a woman he’d considered a mentee between 2018 and 2019, believed to be London School of Economics professor Keyu Jin, according to the Harvard Crimson. Jin had completed her education at Harvard from 2000 to 2009, earning her bachelor’s degree and Ph. D. at the Ivy League university.

“Think no response for a while probably appropriate,” Summers said in a 2018 email to Epstein that included a forwarded message from the woman. The reply read, “She’s already begining [sic] to sound needy 🙂 nice.”

In a statement following the publication of the communications, the economist expressed, “I am deeply ashamed of my actions and recognize the pain they have caused. I take full responsibility for my misguided decision to continue communicating with Mr. Epstein. While continuing to fulfill my teaching obligations, I will be stepping back from public commitments as one part of my broader effort to rebuild trust and repair relationships with the people closest to me.”

Another exchange in 2019 began with Summers writing, “Tone was not of good feeling. I dint [sic] want to be in a gift giving competition while being the friend without benefits.”

Epstein had replied, “Shes smart. making you pay for past errors. ignore the daddy im going to go out with the motorcycle guy, you reacted well.. annoyed shows caring., no whining showed strentgh [sic].”

The exposure of Summers communications with Epstein follow reporting on messages taking place around the same time with Del. Stacey Plaskett’s (D-Virgin Islands) receipt of text messages from the convicted sex offender advising her in real time during a congressional hearing.

Reacting to the lengthy rapport, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D) appeared to attempt to sever Summers from the interests of the left as she told CNN, “For decades, Larry Summers has demonstrated his attraction to serving the wealthy and well-connected, but his willingness to cozy up to a convicted sex offender demonstrates monumentally bad judgment.”
